A full, deep, balanced rich red that shows powerful earthy aromatics. Think Gigondas, or Southern Rhone here, only with a Spanish terroir. It’s a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Merlot. The winemaker at Mas Martinet is Sara Perez, one of the best working in Spain. She says, “We can achieve greatness because we have true grandes pagos [grand cru vineyards]. Every year, many of us are working to diminish the effects of oak on our wines.” Perez’s Menut Priorat bottling, though her entry level, makes a convincing case that not only are the wines of Priorat Spain’s finest, but also, that they equal the best from the French Mediterranean and much of Italy.
