Can you like -- write a long post about why you love EdWin so much? I was just reading one of my favorite fics about them and now I need someone to gush about this ship. That someone being you ofc since I know you love them just as much as I do!
I’m not very good at long posts because I’m a short, sweet, and to the point kind of person, but I’ll do my best!
I love Edwin so much. Like...it’s kinda weird how much I clung to the ship, especially when I entered the series just expecting to casually ship them.
I knew they were canon. Everyone and their mothers know it unless they have completely isolated themselves from FMA related stuff. So upon first reading the series I had the mindset of, “Okay, Edwin is the endgame ship. Whatever.”
Then I get to Winry’s debut chapter and see Ed’s reaction to her when she told him she’d fix his automail so he can get to Central:

And I was like, “Oh... they’re gonna be canon...”
And I didn’t just casually stroll up to this ship, no, I POLE VAULTED ONTO IT!
LIKE HELL YES, SIGN ME THE FUCK UP FOR THIS VOYAGE!
I just love their interactions so much. They bicker and fight (price of being friends since diapers), but they don’t resent each other at all. They have a deep connection to each other and genuinely love and respect each other.
Yeah, Ed can be a little shit to her sometimes, but I compare it to a typical teenage boy FURIOUSLY trying NOT to let people know he has a crush on a pretty girl.
He rolls his eyes about her automail fixation, but he knows she puts so much hard work into her automail he’ll openly brag about it. And he gets onto her for crying, but it’s mostly the fact that it’s Ed’s fault that’s she’s crying.
He can be so soft toward her, “You hands are meant to give life,” anyone? And the the main reason he tried so hard not to die with the big-ass I beam impaled through him was because it would SUCK if Winry CRIED OVER IT. That wouldn’t be COOL at all!
On Winry’s end, I just love how devoted she is to him (Al too). She patiently waits for the brothers to come home, and while she gets onto Ed for breaking his automail she hops right into it to fix it because she’s made that her job. She can’t join the military but by golly she can help Ed stand. She’s so passionate about helping him she goes to Rush Valley to better her skills.
SHE GOES UP NORTH BECAUSE SHE KNEW HER STUPID BOYFRIEND WOULDN’T KNOW TO CHANGE HIS GOSH DANG AUTOMAIL FOR COLD CLIMATES! (granted she was tricked into going BUT THE POINT STILL STANDS)
And Ed doesn’t treat Winry as a helpless person either. He knows she can take care of herself, so when she’s put into a dangerous situation and Winry knows of a way out of it, he listens to her and allows her to do what she thinks is right.
RESPECT IN A RELATIONSHIP IS AMAZING!
AND THEY’RE SO FREAKING AWKWARD! Winry does fine enough (”lmao I love my childhood friend nbd”), but Ed...Ed will growl and snarl at the fucking Fuhrer for daring to lay a hand on Winry, but can’t handle his romantic feelings for her lest he go into a periodic table meltdown!
They’re such dorks but I love dorks in love so it’s like a winner winner chicken dinner for me!
And finally the last chapter. Ed’s home and I’m sure all that time between coming home from the Promise Day and leaving for the West was him calculating the perfect time to tell Winry he maybe-kinda-sorta is in love with her??? And he just skips every step in the book and PROPOSES TO HER IN THE NERDIEST ALCHEMY WAY POSSIBLE!
AND WINRY ROLLS WITH IT, CALLS HIM A DUMMY, AND TELLS HIM SHE’LL BE RIDE OR DIE FOR HIM!
IT’S SO GLORIOUS! MADE MORE PERFECT THAT HIS TRIP TO THE WEST IS CUT SHORT SO THEY CAN HAVE THEIR WEDDING (THEY GET MARRIED THE SAME YEAR ED LEAVES FOR THE WEST, FACT CHECK ME I DARE YOU)
THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH
AND I LOVE THAT THEY LOVE EACH OTHER
AND THEY HAVE AN ARMY OF CHILDREN DON’T CHANGE MY MIND
