I don't exactly have one to be honest. I think the closest I get to something I watch when I'm down is Hercules. Maybe. I'm not exactly sure. 0/10 would not drink this tea ewwww chamomile

green tea: where do you feel most at peace?

In the city where I grew up there is one of the largest metroparks in the US. In that park, about a thirty minute to an hour long walk from my house, there is a pond called the Lily Pond. And up behind the pond there is a long winding trail with a few benches that overlook the pond. There is one, placed just under a stand of sugar maples, and that is where I feel most at peace. That bench, looking out over the pond.

coffee: surprise coffee ask! how do you take your coffee?

The coffee ask becomes 100% less surprise when I knew that, with my addiction to tea and occasional fights over it, I was going to get this one. For a standard size cup I select hazelnut coffee, four packets of sugar, two plastic cups of almond joy creamer, and a plastic cup of cinnamon creamer.

I don't like the taste of coffee and so HORRIBLY MANGLE the taste of it with everything I can get my hands on.

21: One of your favorite shows.

Castle. Nathan Fillion is one of the biggest nerds I can name, and to watch him get the chance to be a nerd who is also a successful writer and a caring father and a kind person, and a loving man is just... It's awesome. Plus I love Ryan and Esposito's bromance.

18 is under the cut because... Well, I got long winded.

Yeah... This is sort of... complicated. I was raised as a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and I believe in God. That being said, I hold some PRETTY controversial beliefs about my faith, at least from the point of view of orthodox practitioners. I came to the conclusion when I was 7 years old that it would be awesome if the major world religions that held there was only one god (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) all believed in the same god, and the only difference was how we saw him and worshiped him. My mind was blown in college when I found out that we do hold to the same god and faith and at the core many of the same traditions, only taken in different routes. Christians believe that Jesus was the son of god. Many Jews believe he spoke a good game and was something like a prophet, though arrogant. The Islamic faith holds that Jesus was one of the prophets. I accept and embrace all of these different ways of viewing one person that I can never be sure was ever really there.

But I've had a lot of falling outs with the church. If god is love how is gay love wrong? Jesus said to take the book of Leviticus and throw it out, and yet that is where many of the Christian arguments against things that are different come from. Christians visited horrible things against the Islamic peoples during the Crusades. We've all got short comings, bad history, and we seem to be unwilling to look past it.

I believe in birth control, in abortions under a rather expansive range of circumstances. I believe that telling the followers of the church to think about more than one issue when voting for candidates in the US is wrong, and then turn around and insist that the important issues are birth control, abortions, school prayer, and gay marriage. I believe that eating fish during lent only happened because a pope owned controlling interests in fisheries way back when (this one is provable). I believe that the church has grown stagnant and too impressed with itself. Too self important and arrogant. I loathe the fact that my faith believes that women are not equals to men in many ways, and that no matter how much work I put into my chosen line of work (archives and preservation) I will NEVER be allowed to set foot into the Vatican's archives for one reason above all others: because I am a woman.

I believe there are three states of Catholicism: Practicing, Never a Member, and Recovering. I count myself among the final number because of the failures of the church. I practice in my heart, but not in a congregations. But doesn't the bible say something about God being in the hearts of those who believe in him?

I am also a firm believer in science. You can say nothing to prove evolution wrong in my head, you can only refine my understanding of it. I believe that it is, by the law of large numbers, highly improbable that humanity is the only intelligent species in the whole of the universe. I also believe that given how long it took us to evolve to the state we are, and given the average life span of many stars, that we may be alone at this MOMENT, because other intelligent creatures might evolve millennia after we are gone.

I believe in global warming, and know that it should be called global climate change. I believe that government is failing us in a lot of ways, and not because of the ones you'll hear politicians talking about. I believe that our electorate is not the educated people that we think we are, and that we are easily led around by what we are told to believe. I believe humans are fallible, flawed, and capable of inflicting the greatest pain and suffering imaginable upon each others and upon the world and everything in it.

I believe that humanity is a spark of hope and wonder and knowledge that even all those terrible things cannot quench. I believe in the search for information, in the power of the imagination, and in the unbelievable strength that is a child's smile when something goes right.

I believe a lot of things, and most of them are hard to put into words. I believe that bad things happen to people whether they are good or bad. I believe that victims of abuse and other crimes are not responsible for what happened to them. I believe I should be able to walk naked through the streets and not be raped. I believe every single child who has been abused should have one person in their lives who spends all their free time making them understand that it was NOT their fault, NEVER their fault. That nothing they could do deserved such pain and torment.

I... I need a glass of wine.
