this meme gets more difficult every single time it hits me but i am gonna keep trying bc if i can’t be my own hype man then who can:

i may not be out here winning pulitzer prizes like i used to dream about when i was younger, but i am still a better-than-average writer who makes a real effort to practice her craft at least semi-regularly. i can sometimes be overcritical of my work and beat myself up a bit, but overall i do still have a lot of fun writing and i’m glad that it’s such an integral part of my life.

not sure if this really counts as an “about me,” but we’ll say it does: i think my birthday falls at the best possible time of the year period. the october 26 birthday is nestled perfectly within the crispness of autumn (well, it wasn’t this year, but it usually is) and is just close enough to halloween to serve as a bookend to something of a week-long birthday/halloween festival. it is the most quintessentially me time of year and the powers that be really did me a solid by letting me enter the world right around then.

i know appearance is a shallow thing to go for with something like this, but i do think it’s worth noting how far i’ve come in terms of self-esteem and confidence regarding my physical appearance in recent years. i do still have bad days, but they are much fewer and farther between as i have really sort of grown into myself and come to appreciate the way i look instead of wishing i looked like someone else. for anyone raised on our society’s standards of worth and beauty, i think that’s something worth being proud of.

i really do love that for the most part i am, like, super low-maintenance. like i am super easy to take care of, and i appreciate that, since i’m the one who has to take care of me. like i think part of the reason having this wicked bout of bronchitis really threw me for a loop is because the last time i was even really significantly sick was in like my sophomore year of high school when i got the swine flu. like think about that. that was like eight years ago. way to go, immune system. and i’m not a picky eater or anything; i’ll eat any old garbage. and i shower at night and sleep on my wet hair and EVEN on nights when i don’t condition it it still dries perfectly straight and sleek???? hashtag blessed.

my brain is wired in a way that is extremely conducive to test-taking and trivia competitions, and as i get older i only appreciate more and more what a gift that is. like i thank god every day that i never had to truly stress about a standardized test, because that shit really fucks some people up and it’s not cool at all. in some ways being able to coast through things like that has probably been detrimental, but overall it really spared me a lot of anxiety in my formative years and that puts me among a lucky few. also being good at trivia is just such a fucking ego trip, and i think everyone should get to have one of those every now and then.

he’s like this with everybody, i guess is what i mean, so we all just kinda “eh what’re you gonna do” and commiserate about it mostly, so like usually it doesn’t bother me too bad bc i know it’s not, like, personal, you know? it’s just what he does bc he has a very nitpicky controlling streak and it’s annoying but often actually very useful for making sure everything is all set and goes smoothly and stuff

i’m just super annoyed by it today because usually i can at least like see where he’s coming from like “oh yeah you’re right i should have packed more lanyards i guess my bad” but this time i like
