thinking about the parallels between ivy forcing morrigan into "that frilly, itchy chiffon dress" for her wedding to corvus versus both morrigan and meredith being pressured one way or another into the peach puff pastry dress in silverborn
Corvus Crow's type is canonically lively ambitious blondes was not on my Silverborn bingo
love love love how nevermoor doesn’t present motherhood in a way that is so common amongst other media (like fuckin harry potter). i mean there are good mothers and motherly characters in the series (catriona, miss cherry, brilliance), but they don’t loose their personalities just because they are in motherly roles (khmm nymphadora tonks).
nevermoor doesn’t glaze motherhood like after your child was born, your only purpose of being is to take care of them.
and the most important thing, we get a variety of mothers and mother figures. not just a bad-good spectrum of them, but character who actually have conflicts and dilemmas from being a mother (figure). (actually, can’t wait to know more about the relationship between brilliance and ezra, and especially how she felt after ezra had betrayed her). and it’s so refreshing to see that after tons of boring and bad representations.
and i just love meredith’s character. i was so afraid that townsend would make her another boring dead mother cliche (like lily potter), with little to no personality, just the ideal mom morrigan has never had. and thank god that she didn’t turn into that, i should’ve had more faith in the writer. she’s a character on her own, chaotic and morally ambiguous, and she’s a feral animal and i love love love that.
anyway, i just wanted to yap about meredith, silverborn was a dream come true
i'm really interested to get to know bertram better in future books because one thing that struck me about his interactions with both meredith and vesta is that he seems to really fucking hate it when parents have the opportunity to help their kids but just... don't. vesta's parents could've taken him up on an offer for a better mobility aid that would vastly improve their daughter's quality of life, or even bought a better one somewhere else, but instead they ignored him and didn't even bother to ask vesta what she wanted. meredith's parents could've gotten her out of the wintersea republic (or at least tried) and they instead turned her back on her and guaranteed she'd stay there forever.
and maybe i'm reading too much into it, but i do wonder if that made him think about his mom, who could've done the easy thing, the selfish thing, but instead did the hard thing and sent her son away, knowing she'd never see him again, knowing he might hate her for it, in order to save his life and give him a future. and maybe that's why, despite their differences, he did help jupiter with morrigan; not just because of their shared unit, but because bertram knows, whatever he may think of jupiter personally, jupiter would move mountains for any child under his care. and that's something bertram respects.
Do you guys remember when people used to ship morrigan’s mum and squall and they thought her name was odelle and that she was actually president wintersea and had faked her death
hmmm something about Morrigan growing up into someone like Meredith and hating but also loving it hmmmm
Meredith Darling & Ivy. Both blondes
I guess Corvus had a type?
