So I've been feeling like shit recently so I did the only thing I could do: I made a mixtape.
It's here for free download, but if you like the songs, consider buying them and contributing to the artists.
1) Meredith Sheldon Can't Explain
Buy/Download (Bandcamp)
I first heard this song when I went to see Marina with Hannah, but I properly started listening to it for our first few days in America. It had an odd resonance with the huge feeling of transition and homesickness.
2) Marina and the Diamonds Living Dead
Buy | Download
Hell, this whole album is pretty much how I've felt for the past few weeks.
3) The National Exile Vilify
Buy | Download
Exile Vilify was a key song in Portal 2, a game known for its themes of dark comedy and, more relevantly, windowless entrapment. Its lyrics question an emotionally exhausted listener.
4) Amazing Broken Man Near Town
Buy (unavailable) | Download
This song was found in a Series 3 episode of Skins. It is an immensely sad and quiet song - it often helps me to get to sleep.
5) Florence and the Machine My Boy Builds Coffins
Buy | Download
This reminds me of a certain time in my life when I listened to Florence a lot, and felt like more alone than ever before. This record has since been surpassed.
6) Don McLean American Pie
Buy | Download
My dad used to sing this song to me and my brothers when we were small. The version I'm offering here is something of a compromise - his rendition was obviously never recorded.
7) Stargazy When the Levee Breaks
Buy (unavailable) | Download
Stargazy is the band my mum was in back home - a few weeks before we left, they recorded a few tracks in the studio. It's her voice singing. When the levee breaks, I'll have no place to stay.
8) Radiohead Last Flowers
Buy (unavailable)| Download
This song reminds of the Japanese film Confessions, which had an enormous effect on me.
