Tis the season for Lestrade being cleverly snarky!
And the only reason anyone knows the word "meretricious" any more, although it is in the original Doyle stories.

Incredible words I learned from watching Succession today:
HISTRIONIC: The word “histrionic” means “dramatic or theatrical.” For people with histrionic personality disorder, their self-esteem depends on the approval of others and doesn't come from a true feeling of self-worth. They have an overwhelming desire to be noticed and often behave dramatically or inappropriately to get attention. (This made me think of clickbait social media users)
MERETRICIOUS: apparently attractive but having in reality no value or integrity. archaic definition: relating to or characteristic of a prostitute. (This one made me think of Kim Kardashian)
POPINJAY: a vain or conceited person, especially one who dresses or behaves extravagantly.
Meretricious
-new word I learned today
-showily attractive but cheap or insincere
Writing Wednesday... not. 😞
I’m sorry, guys. I’m the worst. Chapter 7 of Impromptu isn’t finished, and I definitely won’t have time to work on it until after Christmas. I’ll post it as soon as it’s done.
Furthermore, I will be removing the Tumblr app from my phone until Saturday, because I want to be fully present with my family for the holiday.
Everyone be safe, and Merry Christmas! 😊🎄

Oh it’s Christmas! Here’s a Dickens-inspired fic for you, snuck in at the eleventh hour.
