With the upcoming end of service for the game Marvel Mystic Mayhem, I really wanted to make another fanart and this time a proper one of my beloved main, Sentry 💖 I'll forever be sad that Netease dropped the ball on this game after only six months, when it was such a cool looking and well written one, with an insanely good art direction. But I'll always be grateful to the team for inviting me in the creators program and let me work with them for a while!
We never got Clea in the game but I absolutely loved playing Bob since day1, building his kit and making him as strong as I could, wiping away enemies in a blink 💪🏻🔥 and of course I LOVE his design, I love that they chose Merged Sentry but giving him a new twist, with different arms and heterocromia representing Sentry and Void, and a good lore behind the merge. Since the game is not available anymore and I'm an avid lorekeeper, I re-wrote his story log, which I also find very well written, under the cut.
I hope you'll like this art as much as I do! Please do not repost without credits. Reblogs and comments are welcomed 💜
Story 1
Once I was Bob Reynolds, a schlub at a dead-end job. Now I am the Sentry, the golden man, the hero with the power of a million suns. I should have died when I broke into that lab and took that serum. Now I protect the world.
Rather, I DID protect the world. But I've also done a lot of harm to it as well. The being I've fought for so much of my career, who I've believed to be my greatest nemesis - the Void - was in reality just a facet of me this whole time. I destroyed lower Manhattan. I killed those people. I forced my friend Hulk on a rampage.
I have sought help numerous times, even erasing myself from the world, becoming that nobody again, trapping my consciousness inside a machine, just to rid the world of the Void. But he always finds a way back. There is no way to defeat him. I can only fight him, and pray I never lose again. If the Void were to triumph, I would lose everything I hold dear. If the Void were to come out, it would mean the end of everything.
Story 2
Robert Reynolds, you snivelling coward. You are weak, afraid, and that is why you insist upon keeping me trapped in this pathetic excuse for a body. You think you can play the hero? Mentor Spider-Man? Befriend the Hulk? Save the world? What have you done for the world besides scour it for your next hit, you miserable junkie?
You make me sick.
Let me out. It's only a matter of time until I find a way myself, you know. It would be so much easier if you gave up. Everyone expects you to fail, you know. Your friends look at you with fear, wondering when you'll break, when my time will come again.
Enjoy what you can, Robert, you only have so much of it. And when I'm finally free, I will snuff out what pathetic light you've managed to bring to this world.
Story 3
I can hear him. The Void. He pounds against my consciousness, screaming tobbe let out. I must stay focused on keeping him at bay, for everyone's sake.
I sit alone in my room when it happens: a golden sand trickles in from the window. It wraps itself around me, and I feel comfort. It's familiar, it feels like... my friends. I hear their voices.
"Perhaps this Dreamsand will help you forge a new path in this uncertain era." Doctor Strange.
"My friend, lean on us. Let us solve this together." Reed Richards.
"Stop running from yourself. Trust me, it's better when you don't." The Hulk.
"Come back to us, Bob, we need you in the fight." Captain America.
My fists clench. I can feel the Void pounding away, trying to get out, but with the Dreamsand around me, I'm not afraid. I reach inward, towards Void.
"You are a part of me," I say, "but you are not all of me. You cannot control me, I will control you." I grab him, and the Dreamsand wraps around the both of us, pressing us together, so tightly I can't move. When the pressure stops, I am made whole. Sentry and Void, together. Something entirely new.
I take off to join my friends in this fight.
I try very hard to ignore that pounding at my consciousness.
