The Encounter Getting Closer

Had some asking if they could draw fanart of my merhog Shadow design from [this piece] so I figured I'd actually go and sketch out my idea of what the whole design looks like. I suppose from that one Sonic Prime universe where the planet flooded but in this case, the Black Arms take on the appearance of sea monsters. His skin is smooth textured like an Orca's an his head quill/tentacles can open and close and probably help propel him as he swims.

He's pretty cool. May finalize this later when I have a minute. Not sure if I'm going to and an eye to the back of his head like the doom's eye or if I'll just leave it an eye pattern.

Despite loathing the surface, the black and red Merhog did sometimes enjoy sun bathing. Especially in summer. The warmth was rather pleasing on his fur and scales. Though the sand that clung to him when he purposefully beached himself was something he could do without.

He laid flat on his stomach on the warm sandy beach, the fluke of his tail remaining in the water so he knew how far ashore he was. He was calm and comfortable. Though his ears stood tall and attentive, listening for any Land Crawlers who may be getting too near.

Unfortunately, his ears caught the sound of rapid foot falls too late as he suddenly perked his head up and spotted a blue figure standing atop a nearby hill. He froze, hoping that, despite the white sand beneath him, the blue Land Crawler wouldn't see him.

"If that were to happen, I..." He paused a moment. "...I would help him get use to swimming with the tail. And help him find food to eat. And... and let him live in my cave with me..." Shadow's tan muzzle darkened with a soft blush.

Azure Metropolis was a grand under water city filled with many different kinds of mer-folk. Different species and many colours wandered the city, living in peace and safety without a single fear in their lives. Some weren’t too content with that peace, finding it boring and longing for excitement. In a need for something interesting, some would venture out in seek of a mystical being that was rumoured to possess god-like powers. Few ever returned, but those few told of the being, spreading rumours of his power.  One morning, a small group of mer-folk floated and listened as one of them told their beliefs about the being. 

“Yeah. I heard he has some sort of magical energy around his waist that only the Land Crawlers use. Fire, I think it’s called.”

“I hear that if you offer him something, he can give you anything you could ever want.” 

“I heard that he is half squid. Such a rare happening, I wonder where he came from.”

Around the corner of a nearby store Shadow floated with his back to the wall of the building, eavesdropping on the gossipers. ‘If only they knew the truth about who they are talking about...’ He thought to himself, continuing to listen.
