One small stumble leads Amy to an accidental kiss with Shadow on their way back from a mission. How will he react?
[SHADAMY ONESHOT] [TW: there is kissing.]
The forest path was quiet, the rhythmic crunch of leaves underfoot blending with the soft hum of the evening. The golden rays of the setting sun filtered through the trees, casting long shadows that swayed with each step. Shadow strode ahead, the Chaos Emerald resting in his hand, its faint glow pulsing in time with his deliberate pace.
Behind him, Amy swung her hammer over her shoulder, her cheerful voice breaking the serene stillness. “You know, Shadow,” she began, her tone teasing, “I think we make a really great team. Don’t you?”
Shadow didn’t turn, his crimson gaze fixed on the path ahead. “We completed the mission. That’s all that matters,” he said flatly.
Amy groaned dramatically, quickening her steps to walk beside him. “Oh, come on, Shadow! You can’t deny we were awesome. And you have to admit, I was pretty helpful.” She flashed him a bright, hopeful smile, eager for any sign of approval.
Shadow spared her a brief glance, his expression unreadable. “You were… adequate,” he muttered, his tone indifferent.
Amy gasped, clutching her chest as though mortally offended. “Adequate? That’s all I get?” She rolled her eyes with an exaggerated sigh. “You really don’t know how to give a compliment, do you?”
Shadow said nothing, his focus already back on the trail. Amy frowned, determined to draw some kind of reaction out of him, even if it meant pestering him the entire way back.
But before she could press further, her foot caught on a root protruding from the ground. A startled yelp escaped her lips as she stumbled forward, her balance completely lost.
Shadow reacted instantly. He turned and caught her in one smooth motion, his hands gripping her waist to steady her just as she collided with him.
The impact sent her tumbling into his chest, and their faces suddenly inches apart. In the chaos of the stumble, Amy’s lips accidentally pressed against his.
Time seemed to freeze. Shadow stiffened, his crimson eyes widening in surprise, his grip on her waist firm and steady. Amy’s emerald eyes were just as startled, her breath catching as the unexpected warmth of their brief contact sent a jolt through them both.
Reality rushed back as Amy gasped, pulling away so quickly she almost lost her balance again. Her cheeks burned crimson, and she scrambled to create some distance between them. “I—I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to—I wasn’t looking where I was going, and—and—”
Shadow didn’t move, his gaze fixed on her as though frozen in place. The faint sensation of her lips lingered on his, an unfamiliar warmth that refused to fade. Slowly, almost unconsciously, he lifted a gloved hand to his mouth, brushing his fingers over the spot where her lips had touched. He'd never kissed anyone before. What was this feeling?
Amy’s heart pounded as she fumbled over her words. The realization hit her like a lightning bolt. That had been her first kiss. She had always imagined her first kiss would be with Sonic—planned, romantic, and perfect. But now... Shadow was her first kiss.
Shadow’s deep voice broke through her spiralling thoughts. “Your first kiss?” he asked, almost reading her mind, his tone low and curious.
Amy’s head snapped up, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. “How—how did you—?” She shook her head quickly, her hands waving frantically. “I-I mean, yes... But it was an accident! I didn’t mean for it to happen!”
Shadow remained silent, his gaze lingering on her. Her flustered demeanour, her pink cheeks, the way she nervously fiddled with her hands—it stirred something in him. Something unfamiliar yet… intriguing.
“Hm... We should go,” he said after a moment, his voice calm but thoughtful. Then he paused, his crimson eyes softening as they met hers. “But before we do—”
He stepped closer, and Amy froze, her breath hitching. “Shadow?” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Without another word, Shadow leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, slow and deliberate.
This kiss was nothing like the accidental brush from before. It began softly, almost hesitantly, as though he was testing her reaction. When Amy didn’t pull away, he leaned closer, the kiss growing more deliberate and purposeful. The intensity of it made Amy’s knees weak, her breath stolen by the confidence in his movements.
When his tongue brushed her bottom lip, she gasped softly, her hands instinctively reaching out to grip his arms. Taking her response as permission, he deepened the kiss, his tongue exploring hers in a way that was both gentle and electrifying.
Amy’s mind went blank, her senses consumed by the warmth of him. She leaned into the kiss, her fingers clutching onto his arms tightly as her heart thundered in her chest.
Shadow, too, found himself lost in the moment. He hadn’t expected the kiss to feel like this—so consuming, so… right. The softness of her lips, the way she responded to him, the faint, sweet scent of her—it all captivated him in ways he couldn’t explain.
But the moment was shattered by a sharp crackle of static. Shadow's wrist communicator buzzed to life, Tails’ voice cutting through the charged air. “Amy? Shadow? Are you two on your way back? We’re waiting for you!”
Amy broke their kiss instantly, almost as if she was caught doing something she shouldn't be. Her cheeks bright red as she looks at the communicator.
Shadow’s crimson eyes narrowed as he lifted his wrist and spoke into the communicator with curt annoyance. “We’re on our way.” He ended the call abruptly, not waiting for a reply, the faint buzz of static disappearing into the forest silence.
Amy shifted nervously, her cheeks still flushed as she avoided his gaze. “I guess we should… head back,” she mumbled, her voice uneven.
Shadow stopped, turning slightly to glance at her. His expression remained unreadable, but his words were deliberate. “Yes,” he agreed, his voice low. “But first, I should thank you.”
Amy frowned, puzzled. “Thank me? For what?”
Shadow’s lips curved faintly—not quite a smirk but close enough to send her heart racing again. “For your first, second, and third kiss.”
Her eyes widened, her face igniting. “Third? But it was only—”
Before she could finish, Shadow stepped forward and kissed her again, his movements calm and decisive. The kiss was firm, commanding, and left no room for argument, as though he wanted her to fully understand the weight of his words.
When he pulled away, his crimson gaze met hers, unwavering. “If you decide to stop chasing that blue idiot,” he said smoothly, “You know where to find me.”
With that, he turned on his heel and started down the path, his steps steady and purposeful, grabbing the chaos emerald from the ground. “Now, let’s go,” he called back, his tone as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
Amy stood frozen, her fingers hovering over her lips as her thoughts spiralled out of control. Finally, snapping out of her daze, she clutched her hammer and hurried after him, her heart racing far too fast to ignore.
Somehow, the quiet forest path didn’t feel the same anymore.
