More ideas for the "Jellicle OC" prompt: a cat who works at the local carnival; color-ginger
Oh I’m sorry did you only want one OC? Oopsy doopsy. :3
Their names are Mericus and Zoricus. They are both ginger tabby cats with brown eyes.
The twin brothers were born on the road with a traveling circus. Both kittens were energetic and enthusiastic, but they were also born with identical ailments. Shortly after their birth each kitten needed to have one of their eyes removed due to illness and infection resulting in each having only their left eye. The twins didn’t seem to mind this however, continuing to race through the tent and the train cars everyday exploring the colorful and entertaining world around them.
Mericus was a very curious youth, finding himself spending time climbing the rigging of the large tent and watching closely how each act functioned. He could often be seen watching the magician act closely looking for the slight of hand tricks that had been mastered throughout his years. Zoricus on the other hand spent much more time amongst the audience and patrons of the circus. He would constantly be playing with the human children, picking a different family every night to supervise. The circus lost count of how many times a human family tried to sneak him home at the end of the night.
The kitten’s parents were both a part of the circus’s high rise act where they would have their mother and father balance on a tightrope with the other human acrobats. At the first the twins would only watch as their parents climbed up the ladder to the high wire, but pretty soon the kittens found themselves up there too preforming alongside their parents. They adored the spotlight and always loved being the center of attention.
As official parts of the act the twins were each given their uniforms for the circus. Mericus was given a bandana with bright red stripes and a navy blue edge on it, Zoricus was given a bandana with dark blue strips and a red border on it. The twins became the talk of any town they visited, quickly overshadowing even their fellow human performers.
This attention soon brought them great misfortune, as the human tightrope walkers felt threatened by the increasing popularity of the kittens and the rumors they would be receiving their own act. One night the kittens found themselves rudely shoved into a large burlap sack and thrown off into a side alleyway. After much effort they managed to get back to the station, but by the time they arrived the circus had already left. They would see that circus again one day, but by the time they did their parents had already been dealt with in a similar fashion, only this time they weren’t lucky enough to be thrown onto dry land.
Scared, lost, and with only the bandanas around their neck the twins slowly learned the ways of the street. The kittens would perform acrobatics in exchange for food from some more pliable humans. Eventually they learned of the presence of a large stationary carnival that popped up during the warmer months. Drawn to it like moths to a flame the kittens spent the warmer parts of the year as part of this carnival, performing, laughing, and being adored by all who witness them. Eventually two of the performers, a young contortionist couple, took the two kittens home with them when the carnival closed for the season and brought them home to spend the colder months in comfort. Thus, the kittens found their new home and adjusted to their new life and family. It wasn’t nearly as exciting as the circus had been, but they were safe here.
The twins know of the Jellicle cats, but only ever interact with them in passing. After all they already have a tribe. A tribe that meets every year for a few warm months to bring joy to others and to celebrate under the light of the moon.
