Find A Song about how the thought of a person can haunt you even after years
Merival - I With Mine
Torontonian singer-songwriter Anna Horvath draws inspiration from tension, gathering from the romantic and familial with practiced vulnerability. She's just released a new song ahead of her debut full length which is due out this summer. "I With Mine" is full of folk lyricism, experimental instrumentation, and a sweeping dynamic vocal range.
“I With Mine” is the sonic representation of a dream-like state. I walked around in this space for a period of time, fuzzy-headed, mind racing with fantasies that felt both painful and exciting. For months on end, I had weekly intense dreams about someone I had dated 6-7 years prior, someone who played a very formative role in my life. It began to feel like a funny loop I had created for myself – this magnetism to somebody who had hurt me very badly but who had nothing to do with my current life. I feared I might have to deal with these thoughts for years to come. I felt powerless. If that person had called me up and asked to see me during that period, I don’t think I would have been able to say no. (press release)

Merival fears all is not as it seems with the ‘dream-like state’ of ‘I With Mine,’ deceptively tender as disjointed keys and a racing melody echo the Canadian singer’s obsessive paranoia regarding an ill-fated romance, ending on a rather uncertain note.
As Merival says about the track via press release:
‘For months on end, I had weekly intense dreams about someone I had dated 6-7 years prior, someone who played a very formative role in my life. It began to feel like a funny loop I had created for myself – this magnetism to somebody who had hurt me very badly but who had nothing to do with my current life. I feared I might have to deal with these thoughts for years to come. I felt powerless. If that person had called me up and asked to see me during that period, I don’t think I would have been able to say no.’
‘I With Mine’ is from Merival’s upcoming album Lesson, out June 21.
