Wade outright pouted, his tail flicking with irritation. “At least I don’t get spooked and shit a big black cloud.”
((Merman Lance :D)) Skylie was stranded out at sea in a small boat. The 10 year old had taken cover in the boat during a storm, and at some point it had broken free from the docks and floated away. With nothing but a tarp for cover and warmth, she was stuck out there. She knew she was a weak swimmer and would simply drown if she tried to swim back. Frustrated, alone, and scared, she began to cry.
It wasn’t often that boats this small came by, but even then they weren’t here during stormy conditions. So off the bat Lance knew something was wrong. He swam up to it, sapphire tail shimmering even under the stormy skies. The current was out of control, especially closer to the surface. The water was roaring, thrashing wildly about.
But amongst the chaos of the raging sea, he heard a cry. A distressed cry, and it sounded like it was coming from a human...a human too young to be out here alone. Diving back under, he swam straight to the boat before coming back up to the surface. He lifted himself out of the water up to his chest, wrapping his arms around the lip of the boat.
He was shocked when he saw just how young this human was. All he could do was sit there and stare with wide eyes, mouth agape.

Bartz chirped as he awoke in a strange tank, he wasn’t in the ocean anymore as his brown eyes looked around in all directions.
He was nervous, confused and a bit scared of what may happen to him as he heard footsteps approaching the tank slowly.
He swam to stay in a small crevice as his eyes blinked, watching to see who may be trying to look in the tank.

“Like a lizard,” Wade nodded, laying back down on his nice warm rock. Though the lizards he had seen laying in the sun on the beach worked the other way around, dark when they were cold and getting lighter in the heat. Humans were weird.
“That’s what I said,” he told her, like it was obvious. His bald head was decorated with a ring of shells, woven together with a piece of netting he’d found. More shells and weeds hung around his neck and shoulders, as well as bits of glass, bottle caps, string, all things he’d collected from the beach. “We don’t need hair to attract humans, males don’t care about that sort of stuff.”
“I thought mermaids were supposed to be pretty.”
“Okay, rude.”
Wade blinked yellow eyes from where he’d been sunning himself on a rock, iridescent scales shining in the light off the sea water on the shoreline. They were pretty in a way, but the lack of hair, brows, lashes, scales covering his entire body created a eerie effect, from the top of his head to the tip of his tail trailing in the foamy water. “You don’t see me coming to your place calling you ugly with your weird pasty skin.”
"I don't know..I just don't" Keith said to the merman, shoulders slumping for a moment, he could still see the ship much smaller in the distance. He had some ideas of why they might have adandoned him, and not all of them were pleasant. Maybe they thought he was too weak to remain on the ship and nearly drowning proved their point. Maybe they just hated him for the weak, emotional boy that he was. "So why did you save me?" Keith asks softly "Are you like...gonna eat me? Like in the stories?"
“Do they really tell humans that?” Lance cringed on the spot. Hell NO he doesn’t eat humans. They’re disgusting!! “You’ll be most happy to hear that no, I’m not gonna eat you. Have I bitten you guys before? Yes, and frankly your kind tastes nasty.”
Keith was gonna drown! He struggles and thrashes as he sinks below the ocesn waves, almost horrified his crew doesn't care that he's in a life or death situation. The cabin boy is panicked by now, his lungs screaming for more air as he begins to get the need to breath, his eyes would've been watering if not underwater. The only thing that makes him stop is a creature swiming for him, he hopes its not a shark. The pirate's eyes widem when he sees the being. It was a merman, a creature of myth!
Lance was always curious about humans. But he was cautious, and would watch them from a safe distance. But today was different.
Usually, humans were in a boat when on sea. This one was IN the water, and no one seemed to be coming for him. The ship he had fallen from kept on sailing away.
He knew that if he were in a situation like this, he would want someone to help him. So that was what he set out to do.
He saw the way the boy’s eyes widened when he spotted him, a mixture of awe and fear. He swam up to him, hooked his hands under his arms, and lifted him to the surface.
