Song: It Takes Two - DJ EZ Rock & Rob Base
Something in the TARDIS was malfunctioning. There was smoke and steam and some sort of acrid odour that filled the console room and made the Doctor cover his nose. But try as he might, he couldn’t figure out exactly what the problem was - the Ganymede Drive seemed to be working properly, and the neutron flow was certainly reversed…
He did know that he needed to get out of there. Any gases leaking from the console were probably not safe to inhale for any length of time, not if he didn’t want to leave the TARDIS with a new face. So it was that he stumbled out of the police box, followed by billowing grey smoke which he attempted to wave away with a hand.
”What the —” Looking down, he realised he’d run into someone - a someone who was much shorter than he was. The Hobbit-like man he’d seen earlier that day, with the curly hair and the big feet. Another grin stretched across his wide mouth as he stared down at the stranger.
“Hello again!” His enthusiasm was uncontainable, even as the little man looked up at him in complete bewilderment. “Just havin’ a few problems with my ship, can’t seem to figure out why she —” And then it hit him. The zigzag plotter. He hadn’t done any maintenance in… Who knew how long? The only problem was that it was a job that certainly required two pairs of hands.
He looked down at the stranger. Yes, it certainly appeared he had a set of two hands. This had worked out well after all.
“I need your help, actually,” the Doctor said with a laugh, grabbing the little man by the arm and dragging him toward the TARDIS. “You’ll want to hold your breath a mo’. Now, here, I’m going to pop this up and I need you to just — wiggle this around, like so.” Placing his hand on the knob, he demonstrated to the stranger what he needed, as he himself slipped under the console and yanked out the sonic.
After a few moments of a strange whirring noise and a blue light, the dissipator fans came on, clearing the room of the smoke and the stench, and the TARDIS lit up again - returning to her healthy greenish-blue glow. With a cheer of satisfaction, the Doctor swung himself back up and pulled the - for lack of a better word - Hobbit away from the console to give him a high five.
“Couldn’t have done it without you,” he crowed to the man, though the expression that met his was still one of total bewilderment. It was quite obvious that he still wasn’t sure what he had been doing for the last couple of minutes. Laughing, the Doctor ushered him back toward the door, clapping him on the shoulder before leaning on the frame. “Free to go back to your dusty trail, friend. Unless… you fancy a trip?”
Because apparently it did, in the end, take two to make a thing go right.
