Mershark Simon with a wild guppy.
Guppy who’s always swimming a little too far from the reef. A little too curious about the shiny shells and bones and rocks clustered in the sea grass, a little too invasive of the rocky side of the reef all the big, scary sharks inhabit.
Shiny tail and wispy little fins, hair always wild. A funny little shimmery blush only cute little guppies like her have.
Simon is obsessed.
Watched her from the rocks. Snaps at fish and sharks that start to come closer, uses his tail to lash at the stubborn ones that won’t listen. He has bitten a cocky little lemon shark that had tried to prey on you.
But you never know the danger.
Not when you’re swimming blissfully unaware, that big shark always lurking. You just smile at him, giggling. Leave treasures at the front of his cave. Wave to him each morning.
Slowly, the shadow that’s following you swims into the light. Stops hiding how he guards you. Slowly becoming someone you keep at your side, and not the shark behind your sweet, slimy little tail.
You don’t know it yet. There’s no reason to.
Simon is obsessed with his little mate. It won’t be long until you have a nice, round little clutch of eggs to look after.
But for now, you just smile up at him as he swims beside you. Blissfully unaware of your future.
Simon has it all planned.
