Dinosaurs in fiction: Let people do what they want !
I think the new obsession with feathered dinosaurs in media is going too far. Games like Saurian and Prehistoric Kingdom are limiting themselves within the bounds of what’s believed to be “accurate”, and their designs are clearly suffering from it. The popular theory that dinosaurs had feathers is nice to explore, but the amount of hostility that is rising against the “less accurate” designs is quite frankly oppressive to more creative content creators.
Fiction should not be limited by reality ! Fantasy should be limitless !
(Rest of the rant under the cut, it ended up going for longer than i expected)
Mesozoica is an impressive new game that promised to allow players to build and manage their very own Jurassic Park, populating it with different types of dinosaur and even allowing players to control them in first person.

@raptorcivilization: Prehistoric Kingdom is more Zoo Tycoon-y than JPOG-y, has a completely different aesthetic and probably gameplay, and has the accurate dinosaur crowd to fall back upon. Even though they're in the same genre, they're pretty different and have had an indie fanbase slowly growing for years, I think they'll be fine. Mesozoica is screwed, though.
I was going to do a long post on each but you’ve summed it up perfectly.
PK also feels like it’s just going to be much less intense than Evolution to me. As much as it’s due to the lack of proper AI to make the dinosaurs do more than walk around, the demo is really relaxing to play! It’s all warm colours and chill music and pretty dinosaurs. I know it was just a cg trailer but Evolution looks like it’ll go more for insane dinosaur rampages when things go wrong. Which is fine! Just another reason why I think they’ll be able to happily coexist.
But yeah, things don’t look good for Mesozoica now. Not that they really did before, given that they only have an old demo available 2 years after their kickstarter raised over $50 000 (to their credit, they have been open about why they’ve been taking so long). But their whole schtick has been ‘we’re the spiritual successor to JPOG’, and now there’s an actual successor to JPOG so where does that leave Mesozoica?
smh.... at this rate the saurian devs are probably worse than mesozoica
Nah, Mesozoica is truly terrible in many, many ways. Saurian devs aren’t perfect, and aren’t above criticism, but let’s have some perspective.
