every winter i slowly forget the taste of mangoes and then when spring rolls around ill go "yeah ill get a couple :/ but idk if ill enjoy them that much" and then the second i taste one i turn into some sort of ravenous beast who has been starved their whole life and can only be satiated by devouring an entire mango over the kitchen counter
Vendetta wants to know how good Raz is at keeping secrets. o: Has he ever spilled one that actually helped someone in the end, or seriously hurt?
ohhhh fuck. this is a good one. and one i actually got sorta in his voice (please picture him in some fucking torture scenario with the truth serum and this whammy of a question, he does NOT want to face this, but... truth serum)
Are you good at keeping secrets? Have you ever spilled one that actually helped someone in the end, or seriously hurt?
"I'm not. Of course I'm not. I get in people's heads and I take. Even if I don't share the secrets I find, even if I don't tell a soul, even if I make myself forget— I've still stolen their choice to keep it, because I made that decision.
"I don't really know if there's enough of a difference between hurting or helping by revealing a secret. I know I've done both. I think I've done both… I just know it's fucked that I'm the one who has to decide that."
…. real healthy relationship this guy has with the ways choice, truth, and secrecy all get muddied by telepathy… He's totally fine.
He hates the secrets, hates the lies, hates not fully knowing if someone's buried thought was something that should be shared, or if it would be worse in the open. Hates that by digging into people's heads he's put himself in the position of deciding whether to break or keep their secrets. Even if he keeps the secrets for them, he's still stolen their choice in that.
Raz hates that he's keeping secrets from anyone. Refuses to acknowledge that he's keeping things from himself too— but he knows he is.

Ive decided for Safety reasons I gotta blog about John Tyler here instead of my main bc holy shit. Im trying so hard not to be a little obsessed with him and failing so hard. I feel like Tell Me Your Secrets was a little...not good over all but I think the parts of it that arent done well kind of benefit John more than the other leads.
Like for one thing the dialogue is not very naturalistic. Kids especially talk in a way that no one would, ever. But it works for John bc hes such a weird guy in the first place. Everything he says is intentionally chosen usually get characters to like him or stating something in line with his strict internal blue and orange morality. Or the way that all the supporting characters tend to do whatever the main characters ask of them/open up to them immediately without resistance. In the other mains its awkward (why are several teenaged girls just attracted to Emma like flies to honey??) But with John it furthers the implication that he's an expert in charming people, which he is supposed to be.
His instability and unpredictability add a lot to the show. Will he or wont he do something horrible to the people foolhardy enough to get close to him is a constant and enriching source of dramatic tension. I could sense once he started going full tilt villain with Emma that they were going to kill him but genuinely if the show got a second season (i dont think it was good enough to) it would have suffered without him. Hes kind of the only character who goes against his instincts, who is both a solution (he really does keep to his word about finding Emma for Mary) and a problem (he gets sidetracked and sometimes flips the power dynamic around between them). And there was room to develop him too, plenty of leads left unanswered about his backstory, about his connection to Mary and maybe more importantly her attatchment to him, and just what his plans were once he found Emma. He seemed to specifically be against Mary killing her. Him and Mary turning into enemies at the last minute was not a good move. The plan should have continued more or less as planned with Mary showing up and having to face the object of her rage and John having to choose between Mary's continued "friendship" and stopping her from killing and continuing his "redemption".
Also the entire St.James subplot took up wayyy too much of the story the whole show didnt need it. They should have given Emma something smaller to do that wrapped up at the end of the season bc what they tried to do was a whole other show that the other leads are not involved in.
