Hey guys!! There is another video up on my channel make sure to check it out!
Messy Bun Tutorial
(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OeKYfC2Q9w)
Messy Bun Tutorial:
To start, you need really big, thick, texturized hair, so if you have thin hair, it won't work.
If you have thick hair already but it's on the straight side, curl it with a smaller barrel iron or dampen it then braid multiple braids throughout your head and let it dry then pull out the braids to get nice messy waves. This hairstyle also works best on day old hair, or even two day old hair, but if you have clean hair, then put some texturizing product in it like sea salt spray. I recommend Garnier Fructis Deconstructed or Not Your Mother's Beach Babe. You can also put product in it even if you already have day old hair to give it even more texture.
To get the bun,
1. Pull all your hair to the top of your head and make a ponytail. To get the nice volume that Jade has around the bun, I would flip your head upside down and gather all your head because that gives really nice volume.
You can do two different methods from here:
Method 1:
1. Tease the entire ponytail to make it big and fluffy. This will make the bun messier and give it the huge volume that Jade has.
2. Grab the mass of teased hair and wrap loosely around the base of the ponytail, twisting slightly enough that you don't get a weird bee-hive type bun, but not too tightly so that you lose the volume.
3. Stick bobby pins all around the base so that the bun is secured firmly on your head.
Method 2: This method is also how to recreate a sock bun without a sock
1. Separate the ponytail into 4 or 5 sections, like a pinwheel.
2. Take one section and tease it.
3. Take the end of the section and start rolling it under towards the base of the ponytail to make a loop. However big you make the loop is how big the bun will be. Jade's bun is quite large, so you'll want the loop to be bigger.
4. Secure the loop with 2 or 3 bobby pins, at least 1 from each side of the loop.
5. Fan out the top layer of the loop slightly so that it's not so narrow, but not too much because you still have more sections to go. You don't want to pull out the layers towards the middle of the loop because then the loop will start to fall apart and it just won't look as good.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 on the other sections until you've made a full bun. Make sure that your sections are spread out enough so that you end up with a full bun, rather than a pacman shape.
From here, you can hairspray it and you're ready to go :)
I hope I made it easy enough to understand!
