I would like to know more about metamerism in colorimetry, because it's neat. If anyone knows of good resources on the subject, let me know.

Metamer One Shot
Lights flashed. The cries of death could be heard all around. This was not what was promised. The Yellow Spectrum Kingdom had hired Seran’s mercenary group of metamers to help compete with the Cyan Spectrum Kingdom battalion. The battle had gone swimmingly in their favor. So much so that the Cyan battalion had retreated, conceding the edges of the kingdom to the hodgepodge group of mercenaries and soldiers. Everything went wrong. Seran’s band of mercenaries had done most of the fighting in the battle and were exhausted beyond belief. The sky cracked open after the battle and dropped hundreds more Yellow soldiers onto the field who proceeded to immediately start slaughtering Seran’s metamers.
They weren’t prepared. The enemy soldiers had time to charge their mediums for the first wave of assault. The losses were not minor by any means. Out of 150 in his group, only approximately 40 remained. Seran only survived by switching his own spectrum to Blue and using his arm as a shield. The charge wasn’t strong enough so the plating was destroyed and his arm was broken. The rest of his men switched to their fastest spectrum color in order to swiftly erect defenses and attempt to mount some form of offense. They were losing, badly. No matter what normal advantage their chosen color would give them, his men were already weakened after battle and would only last so long.
Still grounded from his wound, Seran swapped his spectrum to yellow. He used his good arm to take a last resort medium from his satchel. A yellow orb the size of his hand with red cracks running through it. He prayed to the only god he believed in, Strahlung, and made the final decision of his career. Of his life. The orb started to crackle in his hand. Seran projected his voice so his men could hear him.
“LAST CALL. DEFENSIVE LINE!”
The sound of his voice shook his mercenaries into action. The ones of the faster spectrum broke off from the rest and surrounded their leader. Instantly they switched their spectrum to their highest powered forms and produced mediums of various colors, all the size of a small mirror. Ten surrounded Seran of various colors. One Green, two Cyan, 4 Yellow, and 3 Orange. The energy crackled and expanded from their medium forming a shield specifically meant to protect Seran for a small length of time.
Every ounce of energy he had was deposited into the orb. Hesitant but resolute, Seran gave his last order.
“Break ranks. Trap the enemy. The Yellow Spectrum have just declared war.”
His men did as they were told. They all knew there was no getting out of this assault alive. A message needed to be sent to their allies and to their new enemies. A few of the enemy started to close in on Seran. All he could do was smile.
A flash of yellow, infused with lines of red erupted. The light engulfed the entirety of the combat and then some. A pillar of energy erupted from the initial impact zone shooting half a mile into the sky. Eight kingdoms saw the light. Every Metamer who knew the sign extended a ray of energy into the sky as well. Every being in this world was put on full alert. Death was on the horizon.
*
Two beings looked down on the light from crystalline structure in the sky with malice in their eyes.
“Strahlung’s creations are bold. Raining death on those…mutants would be an exemplary feeling.”
“You know direct intervention is impossible. Trust in the power we’ve given the seven kingdoms.”
“What about the eighth? Another of Strahlung’s. If they were to get involved…”
“Weak. Unnecessary. They are nothing without our creations. Ah, new prayers are coming in.”
Our lords Prism and Optic, please give us the strength to wipe these abominations off the face of this world.
Prism smiled, “Shall we respond dear sister?”
Optic grimaced, “Only when they are in danger of losing. Miracles are an excellent way of keeping the sheep in line.”
