metazoe said: Simon Lee is a god of sculpting. But I’d say that learning to do something fast is not the point. But learning to make something well is. Speed is not a special skill, you just make things faster when you know what you’re doing and confident about it. Just in case;) Lol, I know. But I think there is value in being able to get your ideas across quickly. Especially since I want to be hired for concept design projects. And a lot of times, with concepting, you’re trying to just show an idea, not create a permanent piece of art. So there are times when quality in construction is more important, but other times when it’s important to quickly render an idea. It really depends on what the final destination of the piece is. That being said, these pieces are just sketches, and practice is always good no matter what you are doing :)
Hello Casting side of Tumblr!
I’m using oomoo 25 which (supposedly) has a very low viscosity and is made to be poured without vacuum or pressure pot. I have considered getting a pressure pot, but was hoping to use the owl I am trying to cast to be a bit of a test run and so carefully chose items that would work without a pressure pot. I’ve seen the harbor freight pot used before, did you follow a specific set up @sharptoothsnail? Since I’m making some extra money right now, it might be my next move depending on budget. What I’m doing should work though and other people have had success with oomoo.
I am measuring in two different cups then mixing that together in a third after a relatively high/think poor into the cup. I have a bad hand and mixing is hard on it, so I watch that carefully. I am pouring a bit high into the mold, but can certainly try a higher pour.
Oomoo does stick to itself and I can try the brush on method (I tried it earlier with an old/stale batch and it still had issues, but that was the batches fault likely). Oomoo should work without this more time consuming method though but at this point it’s worth the attempt. I hadn’t heard of the hair dyer idea- I think I own one somewhere and am willing to see what it does.
I think that covered everything. Thank you all for your feedback!
