My new icon is my lovely Lizzie in her "sad kitty" mode. My new URL means "two tuxedo cats" in Spanish, because I own two tuxedo cats now (or rather, they own me) and I felt like being quirky for awhile. ;-P But yes it is I, Nicole, aka  Methodically Eclectic.

You're so sweet! And don't count yourself out immediately. You can always aim for a lower word count if you want to. At the end of the day, it's all a personal race, anyway. Who cares about a printed-out certificate so long as you have a shiny rough (or second) draft in hand?

I saw your post that you like Lupin! He is my absolute favorite in Harry Potter! I knew from the first time we "meet" him in PoA that there was something chronically, physically wrong with him, yet JK made him one of the noblest characters in the series. I once read that she intentionally used lycanthropy as a metaphor for disabilities, particularly ones that are shunned by society. As a person with disabilities I think she was wonderful to do that. :-)

I do love Lupin. He tends to get overshadowed when they were students by the great James and Sirius and on PoA by the reveal betrayal of Peter and reappearance of Sirius, while he was just there with his affliction. I love that he has a calm mind, a steady presence, and a good friend. And despite all prejudices against him by the people he was trying to protect and those who have the same conditions, he tried to use his condition to get some support from the other werewolves. I'm sad that Teddy did not get to meet him. I like think of him as an older Neville rather than Harry or Ron who are more along the lines of the James and Sirius.

I have this thing where I get convinced that a popular book can't be that good, and avoid it like the plague. I might get around to reading TFIOS in, like, 2017. I stayed away from anything by C.S. Lewis or Madeleine L'Engle as a kid, because my teachers and the other bookworm kids would never shut up about them. Now I'm sad that they weren't part of my childhood, but glad I finally got around to reading them, because they're wonderful!

I didn't like (or understand - I'm not sure which now) A Wrinkle in Time. I loved the Narnia books though.

It's never too late to read something :) The people who first loved the classic books are all dead, and people still continue to discover and read those books today! So think about that. (I have no clue where this idea is going)

My Mom! She is the most wonderful woman I know. My parents divorced when I was 6 years old. It wasn’t always easy for her but she never gave up. I'm really proud of her, because now she is Head of Department and she lives her life like she deserves it.
