yeah i mean miyazaki didnt have as much of a direct hand in dks2, dks3 is def more of a sequel to dks1

That's the lens through which I view all dks2 discourse tbh. B-team wrote it, A-team has the last word on whether or not it’s good and deserves to be part of the main plot. Artist’s intent is pretty much the final say on this kind of thing for me. If miyazaki had completely endorsed dks2′s plot and themes and ran with them, then I’d be all for it, but since he seems really willing to gloss over it and rewind to things he set up in dks1, I’m not gonna give those plot threads as much attention when analyzing the series as a whole, because to me it’s pointless to try and connect things written by two different people who had completely different interpretations of the world it takes place in. Dark souls 2 was a good game but ultimately it has no place in analysis of dark souls 1 and 3.

It might have had some superficially interesting plot threads but I’d much rather they be shoved under the rug to make way for more expansive connections with the world set up in dark souls 1 than to stifle miyazaki’s vision for the series as a whole with shoehorned in continuations of a game that he didn’t write

oh definitely, but he totally has an actual human face on his boss model and there’s nothing implying that he’s a drangleic giant, depending on how you interpret the text about him being the descendant of a conqueror (THAT DOESN’T HAVE TO MEAN GIANT LORD OK IT COULD BE ANYONE)

I was rly depressed after seeing what happened to Gwindolyn and anor londo

that boss was just so viscerally upsetting to me and it’s fascinating? like gwyndolin was a fucking dick and also the closest thing to a main antagonist that dks1 had but I still instantly felt like I needed to avenge him, like I still had some mixture of of respect and nostalgia for him and the game brutally exploited that 

even after I avenged him it still felt bittersweet because all the soul item descriptions just went into more detail about how slow and horrible his death was

there’s a reason “you don’t deserve this” is now an option for messages
