Matthew 27:57-61 VI. 57 When evening came, a rich Arimathean, named Joseph, one who had with Jesus gone, 58 this man to Pilate went for Jesus' body, and Pilate his request bade to be done. 59 So Joseph took and wrapped the corpse in linen 60 and in his own tomb laid Him down alone, which tomb had not been used by any person, but lately had been hewn out of the stone. Psalm 129 8 6 6 8 6 6 6 A Song of Ascents. 1 From youth has their hostility toward me been on display, let Israel now say, 2 From youth has their hostility toward me been on display, yet never once were they triumphant over me. 3 The plowers had their way with me, my back to plow and, sore, their furrows lengthened more. 4 But Yahweh: He is righteous, He has cut my bonds in twain the wicked to restrain had fastened over me. 5 May they be put to shame who hate that Zion should be well! When Morning Came - IV

Matthew 27:33-49 IV. 33 And when they came unto that hill - Golgotha, what name Place of a Skull does signify, 34 they gave him wine with gall; yet, having tasted, the mixture He unwilling was to try. 35 And when they crucified Him they divided, by casting lots, His garments then to take, 36 and then they sat before him, and addressed them a careful watch about the place to make. 37 And they did also fashion there a notice, and fixed it to the wood above His Head, so to proclaim the charge that was against Him, for, This is Jesus, King of the Jews, it said. 38 Now at that time two robbers hung there with Him, one at His right, the other at His left, 39 and passers-by withheld not their abusing; they wagged their heads, of sympathy bereft. 40 They said, You would destroy the holy temple and in three days the temple raise again? Save now yourself! If You are God’s own firstborn, come off the cross and show us common men. 41 The leading priests, the scribes, and elders also were mocking Him: 42 Himself He cannot free! Who others saved - if He is King of Israel, Come down! we will believe when we can see. 43 He has to God His life and soul entrusted; let God therefore His rescue now contrive. For He has claimed to be within our hearing the Son of God! - and so did they connive. 44 The robbers, who were crucified beside him, insulted him with words as much the same, 45 and from the day's sixth hour descended darkness until the ninth at length upon it came. 46 At this the day's ninth hour did Jesus loudly cry out, and spoke these words in agony: Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? My God! My God! -- Why forsake Thou Me? 47 And some who stood nearby, when they had heard it, said, Look, He calls Elijah with a sign. 48 At once did one arise to run, and taking a sponge, he soaked it full with sour wine, and put it on a reed, and held it to Him, if He should from its spirits crave a drink. 49 His fellows, though, said Nay, perhaps, Elijah will come to save Him at the very brink. 03/24/2016 Hymnal Index

When Morning Came - III

Matthew 27:26-32 III. 26 He then released to them the man Barabbas, but Jesus scourged, and to be crucified delivered him; 27 his soldiers then took Jesus, and Him to the Praetorium did guide. Their whole band then they unto Him did gather. 28 They stripped him, robed him then of scarlet strand; 29 they wove a crown of thorns and put it on Him; a reed they conjured up for His right hand. Matthew 27:11-25 II. 11 Now Jesus faced the governor, was standing before him when the governor, to learn of Him, Are You King of the Jews? he questioned, and Jesus, You have said, gave in return. 12 And when accused, the leading priests and elders submitting their reproach, He answered not. 13 Then Pilate said, Do You not hear this witness? How many things against You they have brought? 14 But He at this gave not the slightest answer, indeed, no word submitting there to such as would condemn Him; He did not defend Him; the governor at this then marvelled much. 15 Now at the feast the governor was given to give the crowd one prisoner as free, 16 and at this time a certain man Barabbas was there a prisoner of infamy. 17 When they were therefore gathered all together, said Pilate unto them, What is your mind, if I should one of these now held: Barabbas, or Jesus, called the Christ, to you unbind? 18 For he knew they did give Him up for envy, 19 and while he sat in judgment, said his wife, That man is righteous - let Him go! I suffer on His account portents in dreams of strife. 20 The leading priests and elders, though, persuaded the multitudes Barabbas to select, destroying therefore Jesus; 21 Thence to freedom, the governor said, one of these direct. They chose Barabbas. 22 Pilate said, With Jesus, the Christ by men called, what now shall I do? They said, Let Him be crucified, in union, 23 and he said, Why? What evil His? Be true! But they cried out exceedingly, were saying, Let Him be crucified, again, again, 24 so Pilate saw that he was not prevailing, and washed his hands before the tumult then. When Morning Came - I

Matthew 27:1-10 I. 1 When morning came, the leading priests and elders conspired, for Jesus - they would have Him dead, 2 and so they bound Him up, away they took Him, and to the governor, to Pilate led. 3 Then Judas, who betrayed Him, when he saw this, that Jesus was condemned, would have restored, returning to the leading priests and elders, the silver thirty pieces his reward. 4 And told them, I have sinned; in my betrayal I surely blameless blood to you betrayed! But they said, What to us is this confession? Do what you will, and we will not dissuade. 5 So Judas then into the sanctuary cast down his silver pieces, and away departed, and his life he also from him forsook, and hanged himself in dark dismay. 6 The leading priests: they took the silver pieces and said, It is not lawful now to place into the treasury the price of bloodshed, and bloodshed does this portion so disgrace. 7 And so they bought them, having taken counsel, the strangers’ burial ground: the potter’s field. 8 And so that place the Field of Blood a byword became, nor time another name appealed. 9 Then was fulfilled the word to Jeremiah which said: I thirty pieces silver paid, the price, as unto Israel’s children given, 10 and for the potter’s field was it conveyed. 03/21/2016 Hymnal Index

How Blessed Each and Every One Shall Prove

Psalm 128 10 6 8 4 A Song of Ascents. 1 How blessed each and every one shall prove when Yahweh has his fear, who in His ways does live and move and shall adhere. 2 When labor’s good return your hands shall fill to feed thereof anew, you will be happy, and it will be well with you. 3 A vine your wife shall be, to climb and cling, within your house abound; your children like the olive ring the table ’round. 4 Behold, for in this wise shall blessing come to him who Yahweh fears. 5 May Yahweh likewise bless you, from great Zion's tiers.
