“I’m not defending myself. I protect the good that we have in Ukraine. Now we are being tested on our humanity, our conscience, our sanity.
A human rights defender from London Peter Crew came to visit me in detention and then defended me in the media. Human rights activist Robert Amsterdam wrote and put on the table J. D. Vance a letter in my defense. Do you know how hard it is to hear that you are an enemy of the Ukrainian people, from representatives of this people - those who detained me?.. I lived and am living for the Ukrainian people. I worked not for the abstract Ukraine or for Moscow, but for the people of Ukraine. But they have forgotten this and they present me as an enemy of the people, and demand that I be imprisoned for 5 or 8 years.
However, it's nonsense: I am presented as an enemy of the Ukrainian people, but at the same time I have been protected by 10 elected officials for a year and a half, who are ready to take me on bail.
They said that I can escape Sorry but in 2022 I was in the Lavra, sitting under shelling, I fell twice in the basement - my brothers were digging. The frontline was 80 meters from the Lavra, so the opportunity to escape if I wanted to, I had. But I wasn't running anywhere. They also say that I can destroy some documents. What documents can I destroy if all my documents were taken from me during a search, which by the way, was conducted without me and without a lawyer. And copies of all the documents you deemed necessary were included to the case.
Besides, how can I affect witnesses? These are three SBU employees, who, while testifying at an open court hearing, named the exact coordinates of checkpoints, the location of which I allegedly submitted: 3 codes, 11 digits each. Of course, I did not mention any numbers in the sermon (her video recording is available in free access on YouTube). Two more “witnesses” testified that they were at the service on the feast of all the Saints of St. George - arrived at 8:00 on September 24, 2023. and left at 12:00 the same day - and heard how I passed the coordinates of the checkpoints in the sermon. But the sermon for which I am being judged, I delivered on the evening of September 23.
I ain’t saying all this for me. I say this now as Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, because seeing how the state treats me, people understand that they are treated the same way.
You will now hit the table with a hammer and say: "In the name of Ukraine" - which means, in the name of the people of Ukraine. So the people of Ukraine support the Svyatogorskaya Lavra, the people of Ukraine pray for me and consider me their metropolitan. Before one court hearing, a judge said to me, “Well. «Я не себя защищаю. Я защищаю то доброе, что есть у нас в Украине. Сейчас мы проходим экзамен на нашу человечность, нашу совесть, здравомыслие.
Ко мне в СИЗО приезжал правозащитник из Лондона Питер Крю и потом выступал в мою защиту в СМИ. Правозащитник Роберт Амстердам написал и поклал на стол Дж. Д. Вэнсу письмо в мою защиту. И знаете, как это тяжело слышать, что ты враг украинского народа, от представителей этого народа — тех, кто меня задержал?.. Я ради украинского народа жил и живу, я трудился не для абстрактной Украины и не для Москвы, а для народа Украины. Но об этом забыли и выставляют меня как врага народа, и требуют, чтобы меня посадили на 5 или 8 лет.
Однако нонсенс: меня выставляют как врага украинского народа, но при этом меня уже полтора года защищают 10 народных избранников, готовые взять меня на поруки.
Говорят, что я якобы могу сбежать. Извините, но в 2022 г. я был в Лавре, сидел под обстрелами, меня дважды заваливало в подвале — братия откапывала. Линия фронта была в 80 метрах от Лавры, так что возможность сбежать, если бы я хотел, у меня была. Но я никуда не бежал. Также говорят, что я могу уничтожить какие-то документы. Какие документы я могу уничтожить, если все документы у меня забрали при обыске, который, к слову, проходил без меня и без адвоката. И копии всех документов, которые вы посчитали необходимым, приобщили к делу.
Кроме того, как я могу воздействовать на свидетелей? Это три сотрудника СБУ, которые, давая показания на открытом заседании суда, назвали точные координаты блокпостов, месторасположение которых я якобы сдал: 3 кода, каждый по 11 цифр. Конечно, в проповеди я никаких цифр не называл (её видеозапись есть в свободном доступе на Youtube). Ещё два “свидетеля” дали показания, что они были на службе в праздник всех преподобных Святогорских — приехали в 8:00 24 сентября 2023 г. и уехали в 12:00 того же дня — и слышали, как я в проповеди сдал координаты блокпостов. Но проповедь, за которую меня судят, я произнёс вечером 23 сентября.
Я не ради себя говорю всё это. Я говорю это сейчас как митрополит Украинской Православной Церкви, потому что, видя, как ко мне государство относится, люди понимают, что к ним относятся так же.
Вы сейчас ударите молотком по столу и скажете: “Именем Украины” — а значит именем народа Украины. Так вот народ Украины поддерживает Святогорскую Лавру, народ Украины за меня молится и считает меня своим митрополитом. Перед одним судебным заседанием один судья мне сказал: “Ну что ж. У меня дилемма: поступать по-Божьему или не потерять работу?"
