💪🏼🥹 VIVA LA RAZA
benito showed the world that even in the face of fear, latinos have and continue to use joy as a way to push back. we still throw parties, we still listen to music, we dance. nuestra gente celebra la vida que dios nos bendicio con.
it made me think of my mom's words when she saw me cry to her the first time that pendejo became president. she told that since she had gotten to the u.s. in the late 80s thats what she always heard from the politics, that they were going to get "them" out. she said, and look! i'm still here! dont worry about what they say.
while they will try to hurt us and sometimes succeed, remember that they cannot get rid of us. this is our country as much as its theirs, if not even more. especially the west coast.
lastly i want to point out how he told the couple, "bailen sin miedo". Dance without fear, no fear. it made me cry hearing him say it as a soothing word. similar to what my mama told me. we must keep living, we must keep smiling with meaning and enjoying our lives. they want to see us scared and mad, fuck them. let them see nuestra gente unida y alegre con animos!
muchas gracias benito! de parte de una hermana mexicana 🇲🇽🇺🇸

Mexican Gay Marriage
On August 11th, 2010, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in Mexico ruled that same-sex marriages performed anywhere within Mexico must be recognized by the 31 states without exception.
So in honor of becoming the 5th Country in North America (and the 33rd Country worldwide) to allow same-sex couples to marry nationwide, we've baked off some delicious snowball cookies, aka pecan snowballs, aka Italian Butterball cookies, aka Russian Tea cakes, Viennese Sugar Balls, aka
Mexican Wedding Cookies
Ingredients (makes about 18 cookies)
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Cup Almond Flour
¾ tsp Salt
½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Cup Unsalted Butter (room temp)
⅔ Cups Granulated Sugar
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 Large Egg
Powdered Sugar (for Coating)
Cream the room temp butter with the sugar until incorporated.
Add the Egg and mix until fully incorporated .
Add vanilla extract and mix well.
In a separate bowl, sift All Purpose Flour and Almond Flour and mix with the salt and Ground Cinnamon
Add the dry ingredients slowly until the dough forms (in about 3 parts).
Once mixed together, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
After the dough has rested, preheat the oven to 350 and portion dough into 1 to 1 ¼ oz balls.
Place on a greased up pan/sprayed sheet pan about 1 inch apart.
Bake for about 15 to 18 minutes, until slightly brown.
Toss gently in powdered sugar while still hot then set aside to cool.
Waking up every day has been heavy. Undergoing functional freeze and dissociation. Feeling grief, anger, anxiety, fear, yet also hope. We are being attacked and being stolen from our families in our own land. Unless we are safe, nothing else really matters. We are not criminals. We matter. We are sacred. We are community. We have pride in who we are ❤️ Resources below for my fellow Angelenos.
And thank you to those who have spoken up.🇲🇽🤎❤️🩹
