An open invitation for a whole day Tree Planting activity on October 11, 2008 at IPO Dam Watershed Area in Sitio Baliwag Brgy. San Mateo , Norzagaray Bulacan.
This activity is conducted by the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines (MFPI), a national organization composed of young, dynamic, nature-oriented mountaineers .
This is in support of the DENR Trees for Life Program and the campaign in the reforestation and rehabilitation of our watershed.
Games and raffles have been prepared to promote teamwork and camaraderie among the participants while raising awareness to help preserve the environment.
**The situation in Ipo Watershed is very critical as it concerns us all. If the continuous rise in the rate of deforestation does not cease, we could be seeing in the next five years another barren “Montalban Mountain” with lots of cogon grass and no forested area. Though we may live far from Norzagaray, the one thing that is very important to all of us comes from that place. Water for the 12 million people of Metro Manila originates there.
A watershed needs trees to ensure a steady supply of clean drinking water for us. Without forest cover, there will be a reduced supply of water especially during the summer season.
With the continued deforestation of Ipo Watershed, we will be seeing less of the birds and other animals that live there. Biodiversity will turn to zero-diversity.
Obviously, the solution to deforestation is reforestation. Mother Nature needs our hand to survive from further destruction. We need to plant trees to prevent soil erosion and to ensure a steady supply of clean water.**
