Sometimes Maxima caught herself watching the other, it was just for very few moments when her brain seemed - for some reason - to almost switch off and go on but with Maxima taking a backseat from being in control as always. It was mostly in times that Ana seemed to be talking, just normal talking. And perhaps this was bizarre for most people but for Maxima, the thought that she was able to talk to an elf, to even be able to call her friend was... something far more bizarre than the way that her brain’s way of analyzing such a thing. It was an odd thing, it was something that she had never expected to happen, that she could actually be friends ( true friends perhaps? is there even such a thing in this world? ) with an elf, one that so strongly defended her heritage, a dalish one.
Or perhaps she was just being able to see what she wanted? Perhaps Maxima was just a means to an end when it came to better the elves’ lives in Tevinter. If that was the case, while she would normally oppose to the idea of being used in any way shape of form, this didn’t seem much like manipulation and more having someone pushing her towards her objectives. Well, one of them.
The questions still nag though,
Do you hate me for being a shem’len? Or am I an exception in this sort of culture of hatred that just seems to continue with each generation?
Maxima smiles and puts her tea cup down, the conversation resumes.
