keep calm

naturally pissing people off seems to have become an unwanted habit of his. before anything else, he’d like to say he’s actually not picking fights with anyone, it’s just that some people seem to think that he is with how he’s looking at them. ridiculous, he knows, but his pretty bad eyesight tends to make him squint at stuff too far for him to see, and it seems to rub people the wrong way. it doesn’t help that his facial expression seem to be stuck in it’s neutral state - which adds to the problem sometimes because don’t act all cocky at me.

max is used to this, he really is, but his already short temper isn’t exactly helping him anytime. his control is a lot better, and he’d rather not get in trouble with the higher ups if he get caught on some baseless fight (though he’s technically not on duty yet - he isn’t wearing his hellfire uniform). but when someone is holding you by the collar after a very long day, when you have done absolutely nothing just tends to rub you the wrong way, too.

it takes him moments later to realize his hands have started smoking black - something he tries to hide by putting both his hands inside his pockets. it ticks the others off, sadly. you little shit! was what he remembers hearing before he gets punched in the jaw. and it goddamn hurt. max may have felt the smoke climb up to his elbows, the dark night hiding the way they burn, but he’s so ready to punch back because what the fuck-

5:00 p.m. Closing Time.

Shik took care to clean up Shaping Plates, leaving no chair, knife, or table untouched. They prided themselves on leaving a shiny restaurant behind at the end of the day before moving on to other business. They always left an hour between daylight business and…the more unconventional so as to make sure there were no lagging customers who could be possible witnesses. Today, Chef had an appointment and was waiting for their client to arrive.

After sorting the dishes, taking out the trash, and taking inventory, Seong Shik let out an exhausted sigh. They never showed their fatigue in front of others and it wasn’t going to change anytime soon. Their quirk could take a bit out of them even just to make regular meals. Now they had to prepare to use it for brainwashing.

They stood in the middle of the main floor, hands on hips, surveying for any missed cups or stray napkins. Behind them the sound of the entrance bell chimed. Shik immediately switched masks, fatigued features shifting to that of a cool, collected business person. They turned around and smiled pleasantly. “You’re right on time. I like you already. Have a seat and let’s talk about our deal.”

“am i?” he asked, oblivious to his own state, but upon doing a checkup of his own condition, jasper could indeed confirm that some of the pain he was feeling was due to skin having been breached. “oh, you’re right, i am.”

how silly of him to not make himself presentable before anyone else could arrive. “last client got a bit rowdy,” he explained, not seeing any harm in relaying that piece of information for free as a thank you for letting me know. licking the bloodied part on his hand, knuckles bruised from the impact of socking the guy right in the nose with his full strength, jasper let a smile run upon his face. “don’t worry it’s not all mine,” he said some rather concerning words without much explanation and a mysterious smile on his face. “in fact most of it doesn’t taste like mine. we good.” traces of memories of the small fight were showing themselves before his eyes as he spoke, muddled, weak as he couldn’t get a proper view of them when the blood didn’t come directly from the source. he then held out his hand. “want a taste?”
