We’re happy to announce that we’re expanding the Cafe Mod team—@myndelling and @kitten-kin are both joining as Cafe Mods! We're so happy to have you both.

End of the Year survey is here!

If you're new to the community, this is our annual survey to help us plan the next year and to see what you all, the community, are interested in seeing from us.

This year, the survey is a little shorter than previous years but there's still places for you to vote on events we will run in the future and opportunities to step up and be more of a leader within the community. And of course there's always a freeform space for you to leave any thoughts you wish.

Thanks to previous iterations of the survey, we have introduced the last moodboard artist standing event, retired monthly themes, and created the caption contest!

The survey is open from December 20th through January 10th. We'll post many reminders, but please also share widely and remind others as well.

It's Appreciation August!

We’re exhausted, you’re exhausted, Fest is done. We know you all are wrapping up masterposts and excitedly waiting for the the final HQ memo, so this month, we are just asking you to appreciate the fandom!

This month, we want you to continue your excellent commenting and reblogging. There's so much goodness in the Fest tag that everyone created. Throughout the month, we will be posting the recs and shout outs that you all put in the Fest Wrap-Up survey. We want to keep this celebration of Bond going.

We want to hear your thoughts! This survey is our way to hear what you liked, what you found confusing, what you can't wait to do again next year. Your feedback is extra important this year since so much changed.

Also, it's how we collect your masterposts to share and how you enter your name in the prize drawing. You have until August 8th to fill out the survey.

We have loved all the movies, game nights, even TTRPGs that happened during Fest this year and we hope to see more of them throughout the year! To help make that happen...

If you want to host a game night, a watch party, a special readalong, or any other events, let us know and we'll add it to the calendar!! (Either the watch party or the Cafe one, both linked at the end of this post.)

To help willing hosts know what to show, if there are any movies you missed or wish people would host, or any specific games you'd like to play please say so in the replies of this post!

End of Year survey analysis

Us Cafe Mods and the volunteer squad have gone over the end of the year survey and have made some exciting plans for the new year. We won't share everything we have planned, but here's some of the fun.

Monthly formats

We will no longer be doing monthly themes every month. But don't worry! We will still have some of our usual ones (like Occult October) and we will still be doing some fun monthly challenges.

Changes to the usual

We are thinking about changes to the Festive Fanwork Fiesta to help fill more prompts on the anon prompt exchange while reducing work for the mods.

We are looking for someone to host a workshop on how to create moodboards. There was one in the past but it's been a while.

We've added another person to our volunteer squad. Thanks for stepping up Kitten-Kin!

New events

We are not running Riverhouse Remix this year. As you have already seen, we will be running a caption contest event in February. And we will be working on trying something fun with moodboards in the Spring as well. Stay tuned!

Reading Ian Fleming's novel Diamonds Are Forever in Long-Fic Readalong!

I don't have one thing, I just want to say THANK YOU. This year was me trying to reclaim something for myself, after being wholly focused on work and parenting for the last 8 years, and this has been the most welcoming, supportive place to rediscover my very first fandom love all over again. Thank you, thank you, truly.

I loved last Drabble writer standing this year! I only took part in reading and voting but the quality was amazing.

007Fest was a very welcoming experience for me. I also greatly enjoyed watching Bond films for the first time and being able to react with comments like, “what’s with the fuck-me door?”

We tried a new format with 007 Fest this year, and I love that people felt less pressure to get points but still enjoyed an event full of Bond appreciation! As mods, we're so grateful that we got a ton of feedback about things people liked and places to improve in 2025. I also especially loved doing the LotR watch party with Anya and playing Bond-themed Quiplash with Ruggsie!

The explosion of creativity and also grace as we did a redesign of Fest!

And finally, thank you to everyone who filled out the survey! We look forward to a fun year in fandom!

Welcome to 2025! This year is going to be our tenth(!) 007 Fest and we're excited to try some new events this year while keeping up our other traditional events. Here's to another year of this lovely community!

End of the Year Survey

As we have been doing since 2017, we have an end of the year survey which we hope you will all fill out to help continue to make this community as wonderful as it is. End of the Year Survey

We’ve had a fun year here at the Cafe. We introduced some new themes, read great stories in discord, and tried some new ways of sharing recommendations. Thank you to all of you for participating in the fun! But as ever, we are looking forward, hoping to make 2024 even better.

This is where YOU come in. We have created a survey for you to tell us what you liked, what you wished would change, and any other suggestions you have for the Cafe. Take as much or as little time as you want, but we really do value your feedback and use it to plan the next year. The survey is anonymous though if you have any ideas you’d like credit for please feel free to either claim them in the survey or reach out to us via email with your idea.

You have until January 17th to complete the survey, but you can reach out to us any time with additional thoughts.

Even if you only found the Cafe recently or didn’t participate in much, we still want to know what you think. This really is a community so we want you all to help shape our next year.

It's Juxtaposition January!

This year we are trying out quarterly themes, the first of which is Secondary Characters! Along with that, our monthly challenges will be more focused on a creation form than on a specific type of content (aside from perpetual favorites!). This month we ask you to create juxtaposition: a clear side-by-side contrast. This could be done in writing, visually, with podfic audio, with recommendations, or any other method! Just tag with #mi6cafechallenge and include @mi6-cafe so we can find it.

Quarterly Theme: Secondary Characters

Between each equinox we will have a different overarching theme. To start us off, it is secondary characters. This could look like creating things from secondary character POVs, centering secondary characters, recommending works about secondary characters, or anything else you enjoy! All you have to do is make a post, use the tag #Quarterly Theme, and include @mi6-cafe so that it shows up in our activity feed.

It's Moodboard March!

It's time for moodboards!! Each week we will give you two prompts and we want you to create a moodboard for one of the prompts. Just tag with #mi6cafechallenge and include @mi6-cafe so we can find it. Never made a moodboard before? We've got a workshop for that! Check out L4.2 linked on our workshop archive page.

Writing Workshop interest survey

MI6 Cafe has a long tradition of Writing Workshops and we'd like to bring them back!  

Just look at this list of workshops! Even if you didn't attend the original, there are great notes and links to resources.  But there's nothing quite like getting together within our community and working through a topic.

As the Cafe starts to put together a workshop series for this year, we want to hear from people in the fandom about what workshops they would most like to see, and which they feel they have the skillset to offer. That's right!  We're a community and all of us have some bit of expertise that others would love to learn.  So calling all writers, artists, gif-makers, video-makers and fannish folks!  Please fill out THIS SURVEY to help us develop the next series of workshops!
