It's June at the Cafe!

It's June and if you've been around for a while, you know what that means: it's almost Fest time! Whether you've been here for a while or you only just found the Cafe, we encourage you to SIGN UP for this year’s 007 Fest, which is the same format as last year, but with a fun new premise. Sign-ups are between June 1-15; you can join after that if you email us, but onboarding may take a little longer. See this post for details!

Discord refresh

If you're a regular on the discord, there will be some changes soon in response to your survey responses so far. Our plan is to change a few things before Fest craziness hits, and then more of the changes will come afterwards.

Saturday Cafe: June 13th and 27th

Come join us in the fandom Slack or Discord as we write, draw, sprint, plot, brainstorm, cheerlead, and generally have a good time trying to get things done together. If you’d like an invite to either platform, go ahead and message one of the mods.

Short Fic Readalong, Saturdays at 9pm ET

Join us in the Discord while we read a fic together. We're currently reading the doubling pot by Mlle_Heloise

We’d love to see you there. You are welcome to listen if you don’t or can’t read aloud!     When: Saturdays at 9pm eastern/6pm Pacific. Where: We’ll be reading on discord in the readalongs channel. (Invite to discord here)

We will likely finish this story mid-June and then transition to short stories for the rest of June and all of July. Stay tuned for an update on that!

WIP Wednesday: You can post an excerpt of your WIP on our post or make your own post and mention the @mi6-cafe. Either way it’s a fun way to show people what you’re working on, Bond fandom or otherwise.

Weekend movies: Bond movies are by womble every Sunday at 8am Pacific time, and Kitten-Kin has been treating us to movies that have a connection to Bond in some way on Saturdays at 9am Pacific time. Join us in Discord to watch one of the Bond movies. Keep an eye on the watch party calendar linked below for updates.

Bond Adjacent Watch Party

Who: The connection to James Bond is Mark Berrow, who played violin for both this movie and all of the Daniel Craig Bond movies.

What: "The Hunger Games" (2012, PG-13, 02:22) Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games: a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death.

I've actually written something!!!

“I heard rumor that cook was trying a new sweet roll this afternoon. I’ll watch Dandelion if you bring me one as well.”

“What makes you think she’ll give me one?”

Now Martin snorted. “She’ll give you two for how skinny you are. I felt your ribs when I nudged you.”

“Oh lay off. Not you, too. You cityfolk are all more spoiled than you know.” Still, he turned with a smile and went off to grab a roll or two before setting out. 

He was given three.

Volume 2 of the recipe book is in progress (with a goal to complete it by the end of the year.) In sorting the categories of recipes, we could use more of the following categories to help fill out the wide array of food options:

It’s almost time to sign up for 007 Fest!

What is 007 Fest?

007 Fest is an annual month-long celebration in July of all things Bond!

The primary goals of 007 Fest is to create anything and everything relating to James Bond and to celebrate the fandom community. We will have prompts, activities, and hangouts in Discord to chill with other members of the fandom from around the world. 

This year, the storyline we are following is the MI6 leadership’s attempt to run some internal team bonding activities in a four-week event they are calling The A.N.E.M.O.N.E. Games. Each week will feature a different theme—Respect, Creativity, Courage, and Integrity—and have activities planned by different MI6 branches. With so many irons in the fire, the chances of it going smoothly are minimal. 

This is where you all come in! As various members of the MI6 staff or even outside consultants, you’re being roped into helping plan and execute activities, and prove that MI6 does actually have some sense of teamwork despite the usual chaos.

Each week in July, we will ask you to set personal goals for yourself. The overall goal completion rate in the Fest participant population will determine how well The A.N.E.M.O.N.E. Games go in the story. A little chaos isn’t awful, but by helping each other complete goals by the end of the month, M might be convinced that everyone deserves a raise.

I don’t write or art! Can I still participate?

Absolutely! If you want, you can only make social goals—hosting or joining watch parties or Discord chats, for example. 

We also have fun immersive goals/scavenger hunt activities that don’t involve writing or arting.

And if you want to make a “hold my beer” level of goal, we also offer prompt tables and other challenges!

You can also participate without goals during certain weeks or the whole month if you want! 007 Fest is as chill or as high-key as you want to make it.

How can I sign up?

Sign-ups will be open June 1st through June 15th! Just fill out the form and we’ll contact you around June 18th with more information. If you’d like to sign up after the 18th, you can, it will just take the mods a little longer to get you plugged in.

The Saturday Cafe

It’s a day to dedicate to writing, drawing, sewing, whatever creating you want to do. These sessions are open to everyone to brainstorm ideas, cheerlead, do sprints together, and generally encourage lots of creativity! Lurkers are welcome! (❁´◡`❁)

This Saturday, May 23rd, come join us over in the #writers_corner and #artists_corner in the Bond fandom Slack (tag the mi6-cafe tumblr or ask a mod for an invite), or the #writers-corner and #artist-corner in the MI6Cafe Discord (invite link to the MI6Cafe discord)!

If you like writing sprints, you can use our new Saturday Cafe role in discord to be notified of others running sprints during the event!

The Saturday Cafe may take the form of chatter with assorted prompts, spilling the tea on our creations, or some good old-fashioned brainstorming! We invite anyone to start the productivity going before us and keep the productivity going after we leave. Don’t let our time zones control you.
