💡 Tell me an idea you had recently, however significant or mundane.
Was scrolling through some mind numbing internet discourse and as always, someone pointed out, "this isn't activism guys stop pretending it is." and that got me thinking about how there are large swaths of people on the internet who probably do want to get involved in social movements but think that the only way is in-person protesting and/or reposting stuff every news cycle then promptly forgetting about it. For example, remember how people are still talking about and taking action for Afghanistan? Nope, because the news cycle decided it is no longer relevant and no one cares about all the people in danger anymore! Fun times! /s
(ok but seriously. I have adhd so I get the whole "out of sight, out of mind" thing but when you get obsessed with something then forget about it in 2 days, that's supposed to be for anime!! not important things like racism!! anyway)
I brought that up with my climate org and now we're doing a project to mobilize different internet communities for digital climate and social justice campaigns, especially for the upcoming global day of action. As expected it's hard to get people to care when the media forgets, but I'm doing my best while dealing with school and a bunch of other activist stuff. So!! Y'all should go follow @fridaysforfuturedigital and boost our stuff as an accessible way to get involved and help social movements, even when we're not making front page headlines!
