Art Deco Historic District- Miami, USA

Boasting colourful buildings, detailed designs, and great history, Miami’s Art Deco Historic District is located between 5th Street and 23rd Street, along Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue. The district is made up of over 800 buildings, that were built from 1923 to 1943, during the golden era of the Art Deco Movement. This is the first 20th century neighbourhood to be listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.  

After decades of being neglected, and under the threat of demolition, the neighbourhood was restored and revived, thanks to campaigning by local Miami resident Barbara Baer Capitman. Capitman founded a not-for-profit organisation, The Miami Design Preservation League, that promoted protecting the Art Deco buildings in Miami. The League also run walking tours of the area.

Excited to spotlight @stephanie_thatenhorst’s stunning approach to colorful interiors! Her use of cheerful pastel blues, greens, striking reds, and yellows creates a vibrant atmosphere. The interplay of patterned carpets and textured herringbone floors adds dynamic movement, while reflective glass and elaborate ceiling moldings enhance the grandeur. A true celebration of maximalism!

The renovated apartment by @mursetmerveilles exhibits elements from a transitional decor style which intertwines #contemporaryfurniture and appliances with classical features and a dramatic flair.

This effect is established with luxurious and imposing lighting fixtures, velvet #couches and #loungechairs , and decorative art in the form of paintings and flowery wallpaper.

All of this comes shrouded in the intense beauty radiating from the deep colors lining the walls of each room ranging from coral pink and deep green to black and ocean blue.

The same depth is present through details like the glossy, earth-toned kitchen countertop and the gold accents framing pendants, mirrors and table legs to create a luxurious feel.

Did you know that the color blue can have an infinity of forms, textures and identities?

@studiolawahl proves that this is possible by excepting our imagination and paying tribute to this calming and stable color. It’s effect on the human brain is the incitement of trust, relaxation and professionalism that is clearly displayed in every room of this home.

While immersed in various shades of pale and dark blue, variety and dynamism is also visible in the use of various textures such as velvet, leather, wood and cotton.

In addition to textures we can also observe some contrasts with the different materials employed for lighting or decoration such as marble, gold, steel, and glass. If all this wasn’t enough, the contemporary design also introduces a mixture of geometrical shapes such as spheres, rectangles, and triangles though the lighting fixtures and multicolores flooring.

These interiors certainly house as much life and volatility as one can find when submerging into the ocean.
