Today is my day on the blog tour for the release this week of Blackmail and Bibingka by Mia P. Manansala. This is the third book in the Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery series. "Lila's cousin, Ronnie, is back in town hoping to reopen a local winery. One of his business partner's dies under suspicious circumstances. Everyone looks at Ronnie because of his history but Lila, along with her friends and aunties hopes to find answers before anyone else is killed." Lots of mentions of food in this story (It is a cozy mystery after all) It's almost as if the food and drinks are also characters in the story. Like previous books there are recipes of favorites at the end so feel free to give them a try. One of the fun parts of this series is the interactions between all of the friends and family. Much of it seems to revolve around food. Lila is in a much better place than the first book and has a stronger, more confident personality. And you have to like a story with a dachshund. Fans of cozy mysteriws and the other books in this series will enjoy this one. Homicide and Halo-Halo by Mia P. Manansala

Lila, Longganisa, and the Calendar Crew are back with new recipes and a new crime to solve.

Homicide and Halo-Halo picks up just a few months after the events of Arsenic and Adobo left off. Lila is still reeling from the past and it’s affecting her inspiration in the kitchen. She’s called in to be a judge for the upcoming Miss Teen Shady Palms pageant with the condition that she keep an eye on the goings-on of the pageant. Not long into the pageant, a body of someone tied to the pageant is found and Lila’s cousin and former rival, Bernadette, is believed to be responsible. Detective Park, the Calendar Crew, and Lila spring into action to catch the true person responsible. Will they unmask them true killer before it’s too late?

These books are so fun! Truly the perfect summer reads. I will warn you, all the yummy treats in the book kept me hungry and I was forced to put the book down long enough to bake a few things the book inspired me to make. I also really like that while also tackling a case and wading through a love triangle with lots of jokes and lighthearted banter this book also tackles some serious issues like PTSD, anxiety, opening up, and more.

I highly recommend this to all who enjoy a lighthearted mystery! I can’t wait for Blackmail and Bibingka!

Arsenic and Adobo is described as a “culinary, cozy mystery” and was a @bookofthemonth pick. “Lila returns home to help with the struggling family restaurant. One morning a vicious food critic, who is also Lila’s ex-boyfriend, dies in the restaurant. Lila is accused of his murder and the restaurant is clised down. Lila desperately wants to find the real killer and clear her name.” I’m not sure that I’ve read a “cozy mystery” certainly not a culinary one. What does that even mean? 🤷🏼‍♂️ One person is poisoned and another is stabbed in the chest in his own kitchen. And someone is assaulted in the hospital. Nothing cozy about that. Lots of food references. I was glad to be listening to the audiobook so that I didn’t butcher the Tagalog names of the dishes. Many of the recipes are listed in the back (not a very exciting part of the audiobook - the reading of the recipes 😴) There was a dachshund whose name was the Tagalog word for sausage (Nisa?)
