Btw I just finished devil venerable last night and had SO much fun! This ask is an excuse for you to share what your favorite parts of it are/make a pitch for more people to read it 💜💜💜
so so so so so happy to hear you enjoyed it !!!! 🧡🧡
this is not going to make much sense but as I've said before the main points that truly made this novel so great to me are:
1) the excellent balance it keeps with its different tones, it is very much a comedy. Until it isn't. and there's a sense of care and respect there, to the characters, to the story itself, to the audience—the way Cyan Wings manages each shift, they always makes sense, it never feels jarring.
2) the characters, they're all so good all so distinct, no blurring at the edges, no boring filler to pad the cast. they're unhinged fucking clowns but they all have Something, and they all work with each other so brilliantly. the dynamics Cyan Wings chooses to explore are fun and deep and never on the page just for the hell of it, these people learn from each other—for better or for worse, depending on the point of view lmao
3) i think this is a refreshing take to the "what do you mean my life is a book?" type of story, wenren è is the perfect main character for it. his narration is delightful and his point of view is just so funny, he really does just want to know.
4) there's flipping of tropes and metanarrative and someone gifts wenren è the moon and women women women and a whole demonic sect coming together to grab a baili qingmiao by the shoulders to tell her "girl stand up!!!!" and metanarrative and true curiosity and a skeleton woman and the importance of having a strong support system no matter what shape it takes and oh the metanarrative and the shocking disbelief in being loved back and found family except it's not found so much as forcefully cut out of another story and oh the delicious metanarrative, have i mentioned the metanarrative elements?
i've said once that this book wants you to have fun while reading, wants you to have a good time, but it also very much tells a story and most importantly cares about the story it tells and the characters it needs to tell it.
.....if that makes sense
Salt and Skin
Fandom: Bodies (TV 2023)
Relationship: Alfred Hillinghead/Henry Ashe
Additional Tags: Intimacy, Facial Shaving, Henry's continuing aversion to clothing
Alfred’s world narrows to the planes of Henry’s face being revealed with each scrape of the blade; the clockwork rhythm of his breath and chink of the blade against the bowl when he dips it to clean it of the lather. When Henry leans his head back Alfred pauses, struck by the exposed line of neck beneath the chin he palms.
Henry’s eyes are closed, his plush mouth relaxed and slightly parted, posture so open and trusting when Alfred has done nothing to deserve it. Alfred understands why men like Henry, like him, would risk exposure to have a moment of intimacy like this recorded.
Hey so I’m making some playlists of women and people of color in punk for the people who watched lady parts and now want some more! But personally I’m most familiar with the old school punk scene (pure hell, x-ray spex, siouxie sioux, dead kennedys). Do you have any suggestions for women and artists of color who are active today? No pressure but I figured you’d have suggestions since you have all those great black women in alt music playlists!

Hi! I’d love to hear some about the Ella enchanted au—I love Ella enchanted 💜
hiiiiiiiiiii mica <3 ella enchanted is literally the book of all TIME i reread it every year i actually have a folder of photos on my phone devoted to jewelry that makes me think of her mother's necklace and the tiara she wears to the balls... this is declan as ella (obedience curse) and jordan as prince char - she and hennessy are cursed to always be together (like the newlywed giant couple whose wedding ella crashes). right now i'm trying my hand at the epistolary section of the book bw ella and char when he's in the other kingdom, which is one of my most beloved parts (the inherent romance of a letter), but i am SUFFERING so have an excerpt from my agonies:
Thank you for everything you’ve said about cottagecore! The other thing that’s always bothered me about it is the classism. People on this site are so disrespectful to rural communities, but they want imagine that they could quit their job and run off to be a farmer? Yeah they couldn’t hack it. they have no respect for how much work it is! Idk it always feels like belittling to the challenges and backbreaking labor that farmers put in, if this bitch online fantasizes that it’s gonna be so much easier and more relaxing than college. It feels classist to imagine that that life is so much easier than yours, and that given the chance you could “escape” into it. Source: my grandpa had a strawberry farm (a favorite concept for these bloggers) and he worked every day until he dropped dead. Sorry to vent in your inbox i just really appreciate you being willing to say stuff like that and I didn’t want your only messages to be hate from people who disagree!
thanks so much 💕 it was a relief to see this message after getting nothing but hate the last 48 hours tbh, and yes it's absolutely a classist movement you're right! x
