I'm utterly disgusted by mice. They are not cute. They're little disease-carrying monsters. Remember the bubonic plague?? If I see them in my house, I want them dead. I will catch a spider, cricket, fly, and other random bugs and release them outside. But not a mouse. I've always been afraid of them even though they're usually harmless.
So, imagine my strong uneasiness when I started seeing them in my kitchen earlier this year. I was pretty afraid to be alone in the kitchen. I even invited a friend over for dinner, just so I can cook! I also didn't dare to open the cabinet under the sink where I knew it was nesting. Thank goodness my roommate is OK with them. She's my fearless mouse killer. I get the traps. She and her boyfriend set the traps, catch, and discard them.
Since January, we've caught two mice. One set up homes inside my bathroom cabinets a few weeks ago. One of the homes was inside my tampon box. Really, mouse? I had to throw my tampons away. That stuff is expensive! Luckily, my parents were in town and they sealed up openings in the bathroom.
After that incident, I asked my landlord to seal up the spaces in the kitchen cabinet. He claimed that he did but I didn't see any differences. To quote part of his text response, "'Have a heart' traps are affordable and don't kill the mice, and you can drive a little ways and release them so they won't come back to the house. Just to commiserate, my housemates and I caught a mouse in our kitchen just last night! They're pretty cute once you get them in a mason jar!"
Catch and release? I can't even look at them! Get them in a mason jar? I love mason jars, but they're not a chilling spot for mice.
The most recent semi-mouse sighting was just an hour ago. My roommates and I were out of the house for three hours and they came out to play on the counters. I came home and there were mouse poop everywhere. Enough to lead me to believe that it was not the product of one mouse.
Ahhhh, just go away!!!! Ugh, I love my house, but I hate that it attracts unwanted housemates.
