“The Orville” Getting a Season 2.5 in Comics

The saga of The Orville is continuing at Dark Horse Comics. A new season, taking place between the show’s seasons 2 and 3, is being written by David A. Goodman with art by David Cabeza and colorist Michael Atiyah. The trio teamed up on Dark Horse’s The Orville Season 1.5: New Beginnings.

The Orville Season 2.5: Launch Day, finds The Orville intercepting two seemingly hostile Krill ships in Union space. Captain Mercer learns that the Krill ships on heading to a planet that left the Union decades ago and that a moon-sized construct is now above the planet. The Krill are planning on a preemptive strike against whatever the construct is.

The Orville Season 2.5: Launch Day #1 (of 2) goes on sale on June 3, 2020.

People think mathematics begins when you write down a theorem followed by a proof. That’s not the beginning, that’s the end. For me the creative place in mathematics comes before you start to put things down on paper, before you try to write a formula. You picture various things, you turn them over in your mind. You’re trying to create, just as a musician is trying to create music, or a poet. There are no rules laid down. You have to do it your own way. But at the end, just as a composer has to put it down on paper, you have to write things down. But the most important stage is understanding. A proof by itself doesn’t give you understanding. You can have a long proof and no idea at the end of why it works. But to understand why it works, you have to have a kind of gut reaction to the thing. You’ve got to feel it.

British mathematician and Fields medallist Michael Atiyah was born on this day in 1929. He has developed a numerous sophisticated mathematical techniques in algebraic geometry and differential equations, which have been applied in fields including thermodynamics and particle physics. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1966, when he was 37 years old, for his work in developing K-theory.

“The Orville” Making the Jump to Comics

Dark Horse Comics and 20th Century Fox have partnered to bring The Orville to comic shelves. The Orville is written by David A. Goodman with art by David Cabeza and colorist Michael Atiyah.

The Orville Season 1.5: New Beginnings will take place between the first two seasons of the television series and will consist of two two-issue “episodes.” The Orville #1 New Beginnings Part 1 (of two) finds Ed and Gordon investigating a distress signal from a century old buoy. Meanwhile, on the Orville Kelly is trying to meditate while Bortus insists on enrolling months-old Topa into school. The Orville #3 Word of Avis Part 1 (of two) finds the Orville intercepting a Union ship thought to be carrying xenoanthropologists. The truth turns out to be much more interesting and dangerous.

The Orville #1 New Beginnings Part 1 (of two)  hits shelves on July 17, 2019.

“The Orville: Digressions” Announced at Dark Horse Comics

Dark Horse Comics has announced a new two-issue The Orville miniseries from David A. Goodman, artist David Cabeza, and colorist Michael Atiyeh.

The Orville: Digressions is set before the finale of season two in an alternate timeline. The comic follows the crew of the Orville navigating “separate lives in an alternate timeline that’s on a collision course with the galaxy-ending Kaylon!” (Dark Horse Comics)

The Orville: Digressions #1 (of 2) goes on sale on May 5, 2021.
