I was reading Jurassic Park when this paragraph absolutely gutted me. I don’t know why, but it did. As someone who used to be a dinosaur obsessed kid, it really resonated with me. Very very interesting take, Michael Chrichton.

My library loan for Jurassic Park just landed, and it will be the first time I have read any of the Crichton novels. The first JP film has had a chokehold on my life since I was 6 years old, so I figured it was about time…
The notion that every single thing we do is recorded, that every purchase, even every mouse click, can be tracked in every way, that there is no part of our lives where we can truly be alone and where we can say that what we are doing is not available for observation—except maybe going to the bathroom and that’s soon to change (how about intelligent toilets that test your excreted fluids and solids). I think the notion that we’re all on camera now is going to cause a subtle shift in our natural behaviors. If we were having a conversation before the camera started, we experience some subtle but genuine difference now that the cameras are rolling. I’m on the air, I’m being broadcast, and I’m not being my normal self. I’m concerned that there isn’t going to be any part of my life where I can be my normal self.

Tonight's flick comes in the form of Michael Crichton's Westworld from 1973. The movie stars James Brolin and Yul Brenner and was both written and directed by Michael Crichton. If the name sounds familiar, Chricton is the author of numerous books that have been adapted into movies such as Jurassic Park, Twister, Congo, The Andromeda Strain and the television show E.R.
The movie tells the tale of the amusement park known as Delos whose catch phrase is "Boy, have we got a vacation for you!!!" Delos has three separate worlds such as West World, Roman World and Medieval World. The three worlds are populated by robots that are programmed to fulfill the wishes and desires of each and every visitor...until something goes wrong with their programming. This would indeed be quite the vacation.
If the concept sounds familiar to you, this movie was the inspiration of the HBO series of the same name.
Yul Brenner steals the show in this one. He nails the robotic tone of his character. Give it a watch!!!

I read this 20 years ago when it came out. Still very relevant and accurate on problems with nanotech, biotech and AI.
Its been a minute since I've posted some movie viewing. For today I'm going back to 1998 for this Michael Chricton penned and Barry Levinson directed flick: Sphere.
Starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson and Liev Schreiber focuses on the discovery of a lifetime under the Pacific Ocean and the four experts brought in to find out what exactly it is.
Whatcha think of it: Yea? Nay? Meh? Let me know in the comments ⬇️⬇️⬇️
