So I put on Gethsemane for completely dark reasons. And have come to the realize.. It's a Michael Curry song.

I was trying my best and that's the thing I tell the mirror I was in love with the thought that we were in love with each other" I've honestly never really listened to this song with a muse in mind before because this song was so personal to me the first time I heard it I was going through some shit and it was like Vessel wrote it just for me and what I was feeling. And it's honestly a song I don't listen to that often but I've had a bad few days and I usually get through my own issues with music. It happened to come on and.. I just so happened to have Michael in mind because he's honestly still one of the men from fiction I love the most. Who means something to me and whom I see just a bit too much of myself in. So color me surprised when his feelings for Rowan just. Explode in my head. I think if you asked him now, after everything that happened.. He'd tell you he never came back to life. He's dead. He's a walking zombie that thinks, breathes and believes.. But that he's upright because of his love for Rowan, because of the sheer force of her will and HER demands and desires. I'd say he doesn't often regret this or houses any jaded, angry bitterness towards her for it. But he's not a perfect man. Actually. I'd say he's one of the best written men in all of Anne's stories because of how imperfect he is, how human but that he fights to be a good man. And that means .. He has some intense feelings surrounding Rowan. I think killing Lasher made them worst for a time and then.. Lestat happened. And Michael is not a fool. Furthermore. Michael knows that woman better than she knows herself, he has loved in ways he's only ever loved buildings and houses, even Mona whom he loves in ways that torture him.. Can't hold a candle to the love he feels for Rowan. So he knows. He knows, he sees and he hates them both in the blackness where the Mayfairs' lived inside him. And yet he loves Rowan. How could he refused to see the happiness that shone between the two? The pull? the very thing he feels for his wife? And he's just a man. [He isn't but that's a topic for a different day.] He will die. [Doubtful but another day.] And the world can't lose the woman he loves with the marrow of his bones. Yet.

He has known pain, deep in the shattered pieces of his soul since he was a boy. He has pains he could never express even to himself let alone to someone else and he thought Rowan understood in the ways she could map the nerves in his body but he wonders if she ever did. If she was able to truly see him and truly see the broken pieces of him. And was this his own doing? She had needed a strong man, she had needed a man he wasn't sure he had ever been but for her.. He was her puppet, the Mayfairs' puppet and he doesn't think the strings were ever completely cut. "I wanted you to know, I've learned to live without it And even though it's colder now, I no longer feel surrounded And you never listened to me and that's the thing I tell the others You were my harlequin bride, I was your undercover lover, but no"

I think he'd leave her after the affair with Lestat. I think he'd put great distance between them because he might not be a witch but he sees what he shouldn't and knows things.. and he knows she's denying herself because of him. But he's still just spiteful enough, he'd serve her papers and leave the city he loves but let her know that he wanted her to know.. He'll be okay, he'll learn to live with the pain like he's learned to live with everything else. And he'll always be reminded of her. Every breeze whipping through the trees, every wave crushing against a sandy shore.. Every act of nature will be a reminder of the woman he loves. It's a goodbye.. It's a statement. It's a release. She was trying her best. He tried his best. Their matching pain should have been enough but even Michael Curry can't compete with Lestat.

favorite & least favorite thing about them - My favourite thing about him is how he's the beating (and sometimes not-so-beating) heart of the story. If Rowan is the brain, he really is the heart that pumps blood throughout and keeps it alive. But to narrow it down a bit, I would say that my favourite thing about him is his intuition. When the dead speak to him, he doesn't deny them their say in the matters of the living, which I think a few characters could do while keeping their footing and touch with life. He has a deep respect and adoration for the past, but he also doesn't let it blind him. As Lasher puts it, Michael sees clearly. But of course, he can't be too perfect, or else the story wouldn't end the way it did. It's not my least favourite thing about him (that honour has to go to all the fetus talk, like I get it, but Jesus, enough is enough), but his fatal flaw is definitely love. MF loves too much, and at some point, it becomes harmful to him and everyone else.

brOTP - AARON! These two old men love each other so much it's amazing. To think that if Rowan hadn't come along, it would be Aaron who would offer Michael a place to belong...I adore them. ("You know, if things hadn’t worked out with you and me, I’d be in the Talamasca now. They would have become my family.”)

OTP - Like do I even have to say it...I feel that's one of the things that's just written on my forehead. His lawfully wedded wife...whom he loves more than anything...and would shoot himself in the head…while holding her dead body…if she ever died before him.

nOTP - What the fuck was that shit with Mona about? Took years off my life.

random headcanon - This is truly so random but I think this guy just has a suspicious amount of lesbian friends. Without trying he just accidentally hangs out and does jobs with a bunch of lesbians and I don’t think he necessarily knows. He’s been thinking that Jamie here is a guy for 6 years and by this point it would be too awkward to correct him.

unpopular opinion - When people talk about Anne inserting herself into her characters, they NEVER bring Michael up, which is a shame because I think he scores more points than both Louis and Lestat in that regard.
