The final issue of the Critical Mass limited series was published with a cover date of July 1990. In the "Shatterer of Worlds/The Bringer of Chaos/Hero of a Thousand Faces", Gordon Castle and Henry Clerk died. The team is able to take Clerk alive, but in the end, Zero is able to deal with him, tossing him into the very catastrophe he created...

The gentleman here seen plucking out someone’s eyeball is a green fellow who goes by the name of “Shreck.” Yup... you heard that right... he is also the reason we are even reading these books, because at some point in time he is going to bleed over into the main continuity, but way after these books. His whole schtick is pretty great though, hes basically a walking corpse that plucks body parts off of other people and jams them into himself to keep himself fresh.
