Time lapse video taken summer 2015 of a mural painted in the reception gallery at HCMA Architecture + Design's Vancouver offices.
Artists Michael Rozen and Scott Sueme were invited to be a part of HCMA's Artist in Residency (AIR) program as part of our TILT Creativity Labs initiative.
The painting, titled ‘Surroundings’ , walks the line between graffiti and modern art, featuring two areas of interest with texture cropped within large shapes. One representing a street and city space, using weathering and graffiti painting techniques, the other represents a green space, or space for nature, featuring full foliage and leaves captured from trees around the Vancouver area. This piece pays a tribute to the landscape of Vancouver and our connection with nature as city dwellers.
Following the success of ‘Surroundings’, Rozen and Sueme were invited by Royal Bay Secondary School, a building under construction in Colwood, BC scheduled to open in Fall, 2015, to contribute another painting inspired by the architecture designed by HCMA.
A terrific example of enhancing a built environment through the combination of art and design.
