This really does read like fic, in the best way possible. Or, a cross between a fic and a book. Like if an angsty hockey fic and a good romance novel had a really cute baby.

“A Toronto Wolverines Novel” have there been others? Must have missed that if there are. Oh, except this is her first hockey novel, so series! Yay!
Main character thinks he’s ugly. Can I just take a moment to say how wonderful it is that fanfic is starting to influence mainstream books? That first line, “Etienne Brideau was ugly.” I feel like a critic might say it’s cliche, or that Gray cheated by jumping straight in with the YA angst, but you know what? I paid for it, and so have a lot of other people. I immediately know how to approach Etienne as a character, and I can relate to him too! “Call me Ishmael” doesn’t do that. Fine, Ishmael, how’s your self image? *snaps* I’m a busy lady! /rant

I’m legit excited to see all the made up NHL teams. So far we have the Seabirds and the Toronto Wolverines.

Imma kinda liveblog comment on it, at least till I get distracted and read the entire thing in one go. I got it on Kindle and I’m reading it on my phone. I’ve read a few of her books and a lot of her fic and loved all of it! Ok, ice cream ready, phone ready, let’s go.
