OnS Chapter 145 - Analysis & Thoughts. Answering the doubt of incongruence.
Hello everyone, it's been so long! Chapter 145 was released a while ago and thus, let's proceed!
The chapter follows up previous chapter's backstory. We get to learn more about Ferid's past along how he met Rigr Stafford who is well known as Saito.
The chapter itself follows up how Ferid heard about rumors of an immortal, eventually said being came to where he was thus making Ferid become a vampire after a rather eventful encounter.
Though, even if Rigr Stafford considered Ferid as a possible prospect for making a Mikaela, the experiment Rigr conducted at that time lead to failure.
Ferid of course realized that Rigr had abandoned given that he understood Rigr hated failures, leading to his eventual struggle for freedom until he gained mobility once again along heading to his final battle against the immortals.
Personally speaking, I liked the chapter; we got depths of Ferid's backstory along how he met Rigr Stafford.
Along this, there seems to be an interrogant related to their encounter given Chapter 91
In said chapter, Rigr Stafford stated that it was a terrible mistake making Ferid a vampire, along this, Urd only reaffirms such statement.
But, is this a real contradiction?
The answer to this is a big no. Let's remember that each character has a point of view; what do I mean? Correct, in chapter 91, we saw a general PoV meaning we see the dialogues from a general view; but now that we have a backstory, let's connect the dots.
To begin with, Ferid was a captain, a leader, someone who spread through battles along defeating enemies; such common ground in terms of history was something that turned into news that spread like wildfire. News about an army conquering or anhilating other reached many corners within the world; such stories would end up reaching the ears of Rigr Stafford and Urd Geales.
Now, a possible contradiction would lie in how Urd could give his opinion considering Urd and Rigr split after the Vampires were abandoned by the First, but within this, there's actual logic and sense. (Chapter 105)
What could it mean? Exactly, given that there's not a concrete or defined set of time, such as pointing an exact day or month, but just an era; the moment Rigr and Urd split might have been back when Ferid was a child.
But how can I say this?
It all lies with the few hints of time history revealed in the manga. It was well known that during the Dark Ages of Greece, Rigr and Urd walked through as vampires, and, at one point, the First Progenitor chose to leave them, back when there were few Progenitors made.
Once the First Progenitor left the vampires, abandoned them, tossed them aside; the Vampires became distressed, they realized they had been abandoned; yet Rigr wanted to find ways to bring him back, but how?
For this, let's recall something. What did the First Progenitor tried to create?
Correct. A Mikaela.
But all the vampires he sired knew they failed to be Mikaela, hence why he eventually took the 3rd Progenitors with him leaving behind Krul Tepes, Lest Karr and the 2nd Progenitors Urd Geales and Rigr Stafford.
And given that Rigr had his own agenda, he was already involved in experiments in order to create a Mikaela. Such purpose was to be acknowledged by the First, along this, it is well known that among the Vampire Progenitors, only Urd sticked with Rigr until Rigr chose to follow his own path.
Thus, this would mean that within their time together, Rigr and Urd eventually found news about the growth of an Empire, said empire would carry a possibility of the Michaela trait nevertheless, given the events that took place in said Empire (the one Ferid belonged); Urd dismissed the idea of making Ferid a vampire yet Urd got interested.
After such events, Rigr and Urd, within the years Ferid was a child until he turned 25 years old, Rigr and Urd separated, leading for Rigr to find a way to bring back the First, a way to make him notice, a way to create what he sought so badly, with the possibility of him secretely tracking Ferid's history until Ferid began to chase upon the rumors of an immortal being leading to their fateful encounter and eventually, Rigr's expectations of turninf Ferid into his own Michaela.
But given that at such time the concept of a Michaela didn't meet the criteria, he too discarted Ferid for failing just like he once did with the First.
Thus in conclusion, the timeline with them does match.
Personal thoughts
Within other aspects, one of the things that I found fascinating is that, while Ferid is not a character I justify nor I'm entirely fond of, he has a rather cunning personality, always looking and craving for knowledge more than anything which is very accurate with how Rigr labeled him as a "Philosopher" nevertheless, something much more interesting was pointed, what could it be? Correct, one of the most primal and ancient fears humanity has, which is the fear towards Death.
It might sound insignificant perhaps but it just reflects that a character like Ferid, even back when he was a human, he felt for the first time a primal fear such as the concept of Death. But this kind of fear stays even if he ended up becoming a vampire like how it was pointed in the previous chapter when Guren and Mahiru showed they had control over him.
Yet, despite everything, Ferid is a character who doesn't aim to have a meaningless death, but rather, have one with meaning hence why at the end he sticks with the final battle between philistines.
Which is true, Ferid's real goal is to put an end to the endless samsara of reincarnation whereas Rigr's goal is to follow up the plan of the First Progenitor.
As a conclusion, whenever Ferid lives or dies, it is clear that the real battle between the teams will likely be between the Shinoa Squad, Yuu and Guren's squad.
The battle for immortals or the endless night might come to an end.
What do you think?
