Finally Home!

I am finally home after an incredible week at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music!  We had a great final recital, and I really enjoyed playing the Reicha Sinfonico Quartet and piccolo in the flute choir.  I have learned so much more about musicality and technique on the flute, and I feel that I am a completely different flute player now.  I also got a signed CD from Michel Debost, and he signed my copy of "The Simple Flute" with a very complimentary message!  This camp was such a great experience.  Oberlin has a beautiful campus, and I enjoyed everything about it, from the music department to the dorm experience there.  I can't wait to hopefully take part in more music camps next summer!  Next flute projects are the National Flute Convention, and auditions for the Florida Flute Fair!

Oberlin Update!

The Oberlin Summer Flute Institute is absolutely amazing!  Yesterday, I performed the Prokofiev Sonata in D Major for the masterclass with Michel Debost, and I got a chance to perform it at night in the Kulas Recital Hall.  He had amazing feedback, such as how to get the solo low section to speak much better, how to better create the feeling of freedom in some of the moving notes, and he gave me some really good alternate fingerings for some of the more complicated passages.  The best part is that in his note from after the night performance, he said that I had a gorgeous sound and fixed everything that we discussed in the early masterclass!  He wrote "Bravo" as well!  Today, I had a lesson with Kathleen Chastain, who is an absolutely amazing teacher.  She gave me some really good suggestions for more tone colors, and we made a huge progress on the 3rd movement of Bach in e minor.  We also worked on the Danse de la Chevre.  She also had some great tricks for good tone, posture, and breathing!
