Not after everything book review

The only word that I can manage when thinking about this book is wow. Just wow. 

I can't even recall how I came across this book. I want to say I saw a post about it on tumblr  or it was in my recommended on good reads but I actually don't even know. Seems like it just popped up right when I needed it. 

‘Not after everything' is a story about a senior in high school by the name of Tyler Blackwell, who is trying to to cope with his mother's unexpected death. He encounters an old friend and deals with a break from the popular crowd and the potential of losing his scholarship to Stanford all at one time; along with his father dealing with his issues in the worst of ways. Tyler's old friend Jordyn, who seems to have no positive thought towards him ends up becoming one of the only people he can trust.

 I have heard this book be compared to ‘the spectacular now' and ‘Eleanor and Park' numerous times, which yes it does go in the same category but it is indeed it's own story, though it might not be wholely original. It was very reminiscent of the foreign film ‘Buen dia, Ramon'  but again it was its own story. 

The struggles that Tyler went through were real, they were not sugar coated or dipped in honey; Michelle Levy (author) did a wonderful job at portraying all of Tyler's mixed emotions. One minute he was a mess, and then when he looked like he was finding his grip on things he plummeted again. 

This book was spectacular. It was raw when it needed to be and sweet when it needed to be. Now don't get me wrong it had it's flaws; such as him falling into the ‘perfect' family which in storylines like these that always seems to happen. I like to think that that is just a side effect of formula though, because if that plotline didn't happen then the progression of the story would/could have most likely taken longer or worse proven to have a super negative impact on the lead character. So I forgive the story for it's flaws, because this book has grabbed onto my heart, and I will not let it go.

“Not After Everything” is an amazing book.

I love the way the writer writes so well the feelings about Tyler respect his  relationship with his father and mother and how Tyler meet again his childhood friend Jordyn, her friendship and then their relationship actually saves him to end like her mother: her friendship, her support, her love makes he realise he deserves good things.

I don’t have words to express how great is their relationship, how they help each other, only if you read it will understand.

NOTE [QUITE A SPOILER MAYBE?]: After I finish the book I listened to “Song To Say Goodbye” by Placebo and it amazed me how remembered me the end because if you watched the actual music video it’s quite similar to the story, idk I just love now the song
