Palermo believes it’s important for women to call out microaggressions from men that might otherwise go unnoticed, because they speak to larger issues about equality and autonomy. She practices microfeminism herself when she refuses to move aside on the sidewalk for men, who often assume she will and sometimes plough right into her. “It’s about being able to take up space in public settings,” she said.

The practice is not entirely serious – but it raises awareness of the many sexist tropes built into everyday life
Sometimes I catch myself enacting "everyday sexism". I feel embarrassed, but there and uncomfortable tug that there are probably too many times I don't even notice.
I think I've probably told people that something I'd noticed as a server in a gay bar is that lesbians take up a lot of space. Palermo's observation makes me think twice. I don't in any way want to make women small, but maybe I don't always act like it.
