Old versions of Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac

This is of limited use to most of the world, but if you are not here by accident... you're welcome.

A new version - that everyone hates - of the classic Remote Desktop Client for Mac was re-released as Windows App (what? why?) in September 2024.

I found an official repository of the older versions of Remote Desktop for Mac (< v11) in the soon to be retired Visual Studio App Center

微軟遠端桌面(Microsoft Remote Desktop)目前已經是Windows系統連線操作的必要工具

不管是電腦平板還是手機都有其對應的連線工具版本!

只是有時候還是會碰到連線卡頓的狀況, 在此紀錄一下可以做的調整動作與注意事項

  當你覺得連線速度慢的時候

可以嘗試開啟瀏覽器測試當下的網路速度

  等待約20秒, 再按下Show more info

可以看到上傳速度

若數字過小(低於2M), 可能會造成遠端作業中斷或延遲

    連線作業網路設定優化

在連線視窗下點選顯示進階選項

  顯示頁籤下可以調整適合的螢幕解析度方便作業

預設是全螢幕, 遠端我就可以嘗試調整成小一點方便操作

像是本機可能是Full HD(1920×1080), 但遠端我就可以設定成1440×900

降低顏色顯示也可以提升連線作業的速度

Drawpile again... this time I “streamed” my netbook to my tablet using “Microsoft Remote Desktop” so that I can use Drawpile on my tablet. Works pretty well, although both the tablet and netbook don’t really have the horsepower to do much. It was a kinda delayed / slow experience but still much better than using a mouse. Here’s some trashy drawings from @anira-chu and me. I’m pretty sure you can tell which drawings are mine and which ones are hers...

I’m surprised that it worked this flawlessly though. You just need to change a Windows setting, add your PC to Microsoft Remote Desktop and BOOM the Desktop will be streamed via Wi-Fi to your Android device with no issues. Be careful as you will get logged out on the PC while working on the tablet since Remote Desktop only allows one user per session (you can’t work on both your PC and your other device at once). Once you log-in to your PC again, the streaming session on the tablet will be interrupted.
