𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐝? It originated in China. It is so rare today that only two known plants exist in the world — one in a greenhouse in London and the other in a private garden in New Zealand.
Originally from China, this camellia-like flower was brought to the UK in 1804 by botanist John Middlemist. From there, the flower was named Middlemist Red. However, it has not been seen in nature for about 200 years.
