GIVE ME OIL IN MY LAMP KEEP ME BURNING
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” - Matthew 25:6-13
Talk to just about anyone these days and they will tell you that we are in those last days mentioned in Revelation. We are bombarded with horrible news every day: merciless killings, shootings, crimes committed with no care to others etc. In fact for me, it is so easy to get caught up in all the horribleness of the times that I forget to fill my own lamp. I am a sleepy virgin. Oh, I know all about the midnight cry. I know Jesus is coming soon, but I find myself so distracted that I am afraid I have not been making sure that I fill my oil jar.
Have you spent time with Jesus today? Have you asked Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you can shine brightly for Him? Have you filled your lamp?
Read about the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25.
