Have you ever explained the lore of hostle mob hybrids in Midnight?

I think I've touched on it! At the very least I've touched on Zombies (a disease) and Skeletons (a curse). I haven't really gone into any of the others, but most of the overworld hostile mobs are the result of an Ancient (or First Ones') disaster. Endermen used to be humans who went to the End when the portals were discovered, and they were irreversibly changed by the realm itself, and piglins were pig hybrids who escaped into the nether during a time when hybrids were viewed as nothing more than mutated beasts (think the times when Avians' feathers would be plucked for decorations). If you have any questions about specific mobs tho I'm happy to answer! <3

So... Since Tubbo's gone to the whole DSMP thing, he's back in contact with Phil.

And the reason he was originally supposed to marry cub is to have a link to Lady Death, right? And Phil happens to have quite a direct link to Lady Death.

Am I onto something or am I just farting around in my own head help-

Oh Scar's gonna have another direct line to Death than that :) Phil is... technically someone else's link to Death. But really it's Tommy who's the link. Tommy is Phil's kid and also directly linked to Death by way of He's Literally Her Son, and who has a link to Death through Tommy...?

(Tommy and Phil have a strained relationship, unfortunately. Tommy felt abandoned (and remember he was still a teen when he became the sole guardian of Fundy, who was still a toddler when Wilbur died, so he ended up parentified in the end, just like Wilbur had been) and even though Phil had no intention of leaving Tommy and Wilbur behind (things happened and by the time Phil made it home Wilbur and Tommy had already left) Tommy's feelings are valid, and they make his feelings about Phil complicated (Phil is NOT a bad father there were Circumstances™ and he tried to come home, just there was no one there to come home to). Scar does not meet Phil again, at least not during the main story, but he DOES meet Tommy. And where will Tubbo and his little family choose to go when L'Manburg gets destroyed for good huh? .. :) )

Has Grian or Scar ever accidentally done a courting ritual on the other/Mumbo? Then try to play it off as nothing as the others are confused on what they did? Because they all don’t know all of each others courting ritual and it would be funny if they did before any of them got together.

Not sure if Mumbo would have some or just not remember if vampires have their own. Would also be funny if Mumbo did know some avian rituals and it just slips his kind before remembering later on.

Oh absolutely. Mumbo doesn't really know Vampire courting but he knows human courting from his time period. He never participated ofc, he was engaged from a young age so he didn't exactly have to go through courting, but yeah.

Gift giving is definitely a courting ritual for Avians (obviously between unrelated adults; relatives can give gifts all day long and it's just your relative giving you something), so every time Mumbo or Scar gave Grian something there was that split moment in his head where he went "Gift? :o" before remembering they're not Avian. (Gives a little more weight to Mr. Moo. Mr. Moo my beloved where have you gone) Of course, the opposite also happens- an Avian giving a feather to their intended partner is an extremely important courting ritual where accepting the feather basically seals the deal, but Scar definitely doesn't know that and has completely accidentally "rejected" it by handing his feather back- even though Grian didn't even actually give it to him and he acquired it by complete accident, there's this instinctive "o-oh" moment before Grian remembers "right I didn't even GIVE it to him if I had he wouldn't be handing it back ofc" so there's that.

As for Scar, courting for Fae- Fae courting is a bit... particular. Fae courting is generally initiated after gaining acceptance/approval from the families and presenting the hairpiece- meaning court with intent to marry. Of course acceptance isn't a requirement unless you happen to be courting a member of the High Court (haha... :) ) in which you have to have the Monarch themself's approval (since marrying a member of the High Court grants you legal/social status as part of the High Court), but having their acceptance is just a LOT easier and more comfortable in the long run. After that there are specific dances shared between courting couples (using couples here bc I can't think of a better word but just know here "couples" include poly relationships, too), specific types of gifts at specific times during the courting (which generally relate to what is worn for an Elven wedding; jewelry, the gowns, you know, given in increasingly important order)- it's a very proper courting ritual for them, not one that Grian and Mumbo are likely to accidentally stumble into but may have actually already have without any of them, even Scar, realizing it-

Hello! I had a question about Grians avian tendencies! I've noticed throughout the work he seems to be a pretty grounded birdy, and I was curious if there was a reason? I know he flies a few times here or there but overall it seems like he doesn't have a drive or need to fly. I suppose I'm curious if there is a lore reason he's seemed to drop what one would call "normal" avian tendencies. Thank you and I absolutely love your work! Favorite fic by far <3<3

Hi! I'm answering from a line in Disney world rn so apologies for the brevity/delay <3

So Avians in the Midnight Alley were very grounded as a species, with limited chances to actually fly. They lived in a cavern with high ceilings, yes, but the powers that be (ie their, uh, leaders) didnt actually want them anywhere near the ceiling, so they wouldn't see the.... secrets being held there/ruin the illusion of a night sky. As such Grian is very used to walking, only flying to speed up the process- flying to actually get somewhere just doesn't.... occur to him, since most of his life has been on the ground. Before leaving the Alley, the longest time he'd flown at one time was when he and Pearl would sneak out and fly through the caves around the Alley when everyone else was asleep. There's also ofc the thing where for a good chunk of Midnight, spanning months in-story, his wings were clipped and he was completely grounded....

Other than his stunted flying instinct, Grian will have plenty of birdie instincts coming up later, he just hasn't had a reason to tune in yet :3

Ye! Grian is chin height to Scar and Scar is around shoulder height to Mumbo.

... I... I like tall/short relationships....... let Grian have two tall boyfriends and Mumbo have two short boyfriends and Scar can get the best of both worlds and it's perfectly balanced okay-

Okay but to seriously answer your question, the crown of thorns is not the kind of crown that sits on your head, but it's more of a circlet (as most Fae crowns are), and it's not overly bulky. It's made of gold, ofc, and fits securely around the Monarch's head, appearing rather like two thorny vines twisting around each other (once a new Monarch is accepted by the crown, these vines will either loosen or tighten together to secure the crown to the Monarch's head). The crown will basically never just fall off, having instead to be removed purposefully. Well.... except in one case... but we won't go into that :)

So the Monarch can sleep just fine, all things said and done, because the crown won't fall off when they're asleep. The biggest concern a Monarch really has while they sleep is if someone sneaks into their room and steals the crown, but you can bet your buttons the Monarch has safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized people from entering their room (and only High Elves even know where the Monarch's bedroom is, so).

Theoretically, what would be the circumstances that Scar would use Grians name with the intent of using it with his powers? Im curious :)

mmm if this means "when would Scar invoke Grian's name with the intention of swaying him," pretty much mostly in a "serious" situation. He's already done it in the story, calling Grian's name to tell him to leave during the fight or to get his attention and tell him to leave/let it go when he was pushing his luck with the dying Vampire Lord in the Old Market. He also used Grian's name during an argument but that one didn't exactly hit the way he might have expected :)

He'll also use it to get Grian's attention when he's started zoning out (because Scar is Scar and he can be petulant and go "pay attention to me :(" if he wants to) or is otherwise occupied.
