"I can't say I feel exhilarated right now."

“Oh, really? … Well, you can count me in.”
Though his tone is somewhat sarcastic, his intentions – like usual – carried no ill will. Maybe it was the obviousness of such statement – at least in the Hierophant’s mind – that garnered such sarcasm its way. Who the hell would enjoy this? Well, there probably was someone. –No, he knew for a fact there were; even if those people were, in their own way, victims of their circumstances. On the other hand, there were certainly some within their own group to get more pumped up about things like this, as well; a sort of fighting spirit, raring for a challenge. But Shinjiro assumed, from Minato’s general demeanor and low energy alone, that he probably didn’t belong to that category quite as much as someone like Akihiko or Junpei. Whichever the case, he doubted that the leader would be offended. That was the kind of read he got out of this guy anyway, even if they hadn’t gotten to know each other all that well. Shinjiro is pretty sure he’s even heard the other male let out a sarcastic response or two of his own before.
Shinjiro at least assumed they were talking about the same thing. The day of the next full moon was right around the corner, and Mitsuru had just reminded them. It made sense for anyone to be anxious, unnerved or even scared to face yet another adversary. Such was the case any time they had to fight a Shadow, for Shinjiro knew full well the dangers of the Dark Hour and the enemies that it produced. All too well. The loathsome Hour, that had ruined so many lives, including his and Amada’s. To enjoy it or anything regarding it was unfathomable to the Hierophant. Though, for him, his lack of excitement for what was soon to come went even deeper. Not only was the date of the next full moon – October 4th – one that so relentlessly burdened him with its painful memory for the past two years, he also had to prepare to face the justice that would finally be brought upon him. He was ready, it was what he deserved. But could he feel happy about it? Hardly so. He knew it would cause pain to his loved ones. Still, it was his duty.
“Well… You know we gotta do what we gotta do. At least this should be the second to last one, huh? Maybe that can be sumthin’ for you to feel a bit more excited about.”
‘For you’ – the choice of words was mostly subconscious, but carried a heavy meaning. Indeed, were things to go the way that they were meant to go, he would not be here to witness it. The end of the Dark Hour. A start of a brighter future? He at least hoped so, for the sake of his friends, and more than anything, one little boy of eleven years old.
